Jake + Mitchell by Carmen Glenn

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

(Jake) Mitchell and I are both working professionals, we are an extremely hard-working couple and are extremely career-driven. Mitchell loves watching anything sports and enjoys playing any sport he can join. I love to meet with friends, go out socialising and going on adventures.

When we are not working, we both like spending our precious time together. We both love spending time with our close friends and extended families. We love socialising and going out. We also love spending one on one time together. We are best friends and love spending every moment with one and other. We love the outdoors and going on exciting adventures together.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

(Jake) Mitchell and I met on social media nearly 10 years ago. For me, I wasn’t looking for anything serious nor was he. We started talking and the chats turned into incessant hours of talking morning and night. It wasn’t until a month later when we met in person it was love at first sight. I knew he was the most amazing human I have ever met, and I knew I wanted to be with him for the rest of my life and Mitchell felt the same as we say we are two peas in a pod.

When did you first realise that this was someone, you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

(Jake) The first time we met in person. We had talked extensively before we met, but when we saw each other for the first time, we both knew that we could spend the rest of our lives together. It felt like we had known each other for years and everything was seamless, and I knew he was the one for me.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

(Jake) Our proposal was extremely magical and cliché. At the time we were in Fiji on the beautiful Yasawa Islands. I had been pushing to get engaged but Mitchell was waiting for marriage equality to become legalised which it had in September. We travelled over to Fiji for the new year. I for some reason hadn’t put two and two together and didn’t realise that this would be the greatest place and time to propose. On the beach in front of our private villa, as the fireworks went off on the beach at the stroke of midnight, Mitchell proposed. We were so lucky to share the moment with Mitchell’s brother and his wife who smuggled the ring in inside their luggage. They had a beautiful bottle of champagne to share with us when I said YES. At first, I was so overwhelmed with the proposal that I kept saying “ NO, NO, NO, NO”, thinking that I didn’t want to get married. But in actual fact, I was just too overwhelmed and it was all I could say at the time, even though it was something I had wanted for so long. I couldn’t believe it was actually happening.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

(Jake) The vision I had for the wedding was a very classical, black-tie affair. I wanted to keep it clean and elegant with mostly white florals, a hint of pastel plus lots of greenery. I wanted some lights inside, the open fireplace, a chandelier, and candles. I wanted to highlight the beauty of the stunning venue and its surroundings by keeping it simple and elegant.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

(Jake) Photography was something we wanted to invest in. Great photography was something extremely important to us. We wanted to hire someone that would encapsulate our day perfectly so that we could both look back on it in happiness and reminisce about it. We wanted the photos to be timeless and something we could look at in years to come and still be in awe.

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

(Jake) Our day was seamless, and everything flowed so well. The one spanner in the works was the garland I had organised to border the aisle and fresh florals that would be thrown by our flower girls. Lucky for us one of the other wedding consultants went against “policy” and allowed us to have them.  At the time I could have cried but thinking about it now everything happens for a reason.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

(Jake) My outfit was all custom, I had spent many months attempting to find something that was unique and different. As I wasn’t wearing a dress, I wanted that WOW factor and had issues with my first suit which I purchased and made payment in full to be advised 12 weeks later they can’t source the material and nearly gave up on finding my “dream” suit. I then found a designer in Sydney, I showed him what I liked, and he was able to hand draw the design which was then all hand beaded onto the jacket. It was the most amazing piece of art and made my day even more magical. Mitch decided on a suit from Peter Jacksons. Elegant and timeless.
