Jess + Joe by Lei Lei Clavey

There was no game playing or any of that dating nonsense, Joe called me the night we met, he then picked me up for a picnic date the next day and within 6 months we moved in together and went on a two week holiday to Vietnam the day after we moved in. It always just felt right.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

I’m (Jess) a retail fashion buyer and Joe is a physical education teacher. We share a love for the beach, coffee, daily morning walks and just making the most of everyday! (We can probably blame Melbourne lockdowns for this!) We love to travel, spend time at the beach and go for impromptu road trips. We have a fur baby, Bear, a black French bulldog and recently had our first real baby, a little boy named Leo (4 months ago). Life is forever busy as we evolve as a couple into our next phase of life, this phase parenthood is possibly our busiest yet!

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?
Straight away, there was just something different about our connection that felt amazing and unlike any other before. There was no game playing or any of that dating nonsense, Joe called me the night we met, he then picked me up for a picnic date the next day and within 6 months we moved in together and went on a two week holiday to Vietnam the day after we moved in. It always just felt right.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
Joe proposed on May 4th in the Botanical gardens, the exact same spot we went on our first ever date for a picnic. It has become a very special spot over the past 6 years where we often have a lovely picnic for a special occasion.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…
As I work in homewares designing product I knew the look and feel I was after and so I created a mood board and colour palette to share with my vendors. I wanted traditional/classic with a Boho beachy twist, so black white & gold with a touch of duck egg blue (my favourite colour) mixed with dried palm leaves, natural tones & textures.

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

My beautiful mum took on the job to make 8 dresses for the day – my second party dress, my nans, two aunties and her dress as well as my three bridesmaid’s. She was sewing the hem of her own dress as we were leaving for the ceremony!

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

I have always admired Toni Maticevski and always knew he was the designer I wanted go get my dress from. I love the minimalism and his play on structure and accentuating the female figure beautifully.
