Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
Jon: CEO of RecorGroup. He is a former executive in CPG and beauty and a former US Army Officer. He spent his corporate years at the JM Smucker Co, and COTY before beginning his entrepreneurial journey.
Syama: CEO of Scaling Retail and host of the women and wealth podcast Getting Rich Together. She has had an illustrious career in fashion, working at Barneys New York and Gucci before launching her firm, Scaling Retail. Syama has earned a number of recognitions, including WWD’s Top Women in Business in 2017.
When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?
A sign that reads ‘This is it’, I have the same words tattooed on my wrist. When Jon read this on my wrist, it was a confirmation that I, indeed, was THE one 🙂
Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
The weekend Jon proposed would be the 4th weekend they had ever spent together. When Jon arrived in San Francisco, there was a small Cartier bag on the table. One that contained a proposal ring for him. Syama had asked Jon if it would be ok if she proposed to him. Little did she know he was carrying around her engagement ring. There was no question they were going to be engaged soon, but who was going to pop the question first?
Syama was organizing a TEDx Women’s event in Los Altos and Jon had come to support. There were a number of activities that day including one in particular that tapped you into your inner creativity. Jon had drawn a tree, and told Syama it was an oak tree that symbolized their strength and love with deep roots that would keep them grounded. They were imagining their future wedding together, and while neither Jon nor Syama had yet to pop the question that day, they both knew it was coming.
After the TEDx event, they decided to stay at The Battery in San Francisco. Syama booked a delightful dinner at the RH Palm Court in San Francisco, and it was at the very end that Syama ordered the birthday cake for dessert with extra sprinkles. She proceeded to douse the cake and table, and floor with sprinkles like a happy little girl. It was at this moment that Jon knew this was the moment to propose. Getting on one knee in the middle of the restaurant, Jon asks her to marry him. She said YES! Jon asked Syama, how do you feel? She replied, “Like we just bought a planet.” Champagne flowed, and they headed to The Battery for an evening of celebration.
Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding.
The highly stylized backdrop for our wedding photos was based on the passionate love affair of Coco Chanel and Igor Stravinsky. The vibe was opulent elegance and artistic sophistication, reflecting the glamorous and passionate nature of their relationship.
