Jordon + Meg by Courtney Bartley

In all seriousness, though, everything felt easy with Jordon and how a relationship should be. We are always there for each other and can always make each other laugh, even on the bad days.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

Jordon is originally from Townsville and is the eldest of three kids (brother and sister) and has a degree in Property Economics and has worked in the property industry for over 10 years. I was born and bred in Brisbane, am the baby of four sisters and work for the Queensland Government in an Employment Relations team.

Jordon and I love spending quality time with our friends and family, hosting dinners, going to the markets, trying out local wine bars and fussing over our cat, Herschel. If we aren’t busy catching up with family and friends, you will likely find Jordon watching a variety of sports (there is not one sport he does not watch), and I will likely be at the flower markets or binge-watching a true crime series on Netflix.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

Jordon and I met on Tinder (like every other couple these days). After chatting for a while online (due to COVID restrictions), we were finally able to meet each other once the restrictions were lifted. Jordon and I’s first date was by the river in West End. Restaurants and bars were closed at the time, so we bought a bottle of wine and ordered some fish and chips, and the rest is history. My first impressions of Jordon were that he had the loveliest eyes and was incredibly funny, and I felt at peace with his presence right away. It did not take us long to make things official and meet each other’s family and friends, and within a short amount of time, I had moved into the bachelor pad. When you know, you know.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

A few dates in, I came over to Jordon’s place to find him on his own, watching Kath and Kim. That is when I knew that he was a man after my own heart. In all seriousness, though, everything felt easy with Jordon and how a relationship should be. We are always there for each other and can always make each other laugh, even on the bad days. The way Jordon is with his and my family was a sure way to know he was husband material.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

Jordon proposed to me on the top of Mount Wellington in Hobart, Tasmania.  Jordon, who is ordinarily chatty, was not saying much; however, I just thought it was due to the winding, unfamiliar road. Once we got up to the top, it was a cold misty day and almost snowing – Jordon stupidly wore shorts.. We were the only ones there on the lookout, and as I was trying to look at the view through the mist, I turned around, and there was Jordon on one knee asking if I would marry him. I of course said yes, we celebrated and quickly got back in the car to escape the cold (and due to Jordon’s lack of appropriate clothing). We then went and had a celebratory drink at the Cascade Brewery at the bottom of the mountain. It was perfect.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding.

We wanted a modern wedding with traditional elements. I am a girly girl, and pink was the main colour of the wedding, from the bridesmaid dresses to the flowers. The venue where we got married is a warehouse in Fortitude Valley. Having our wedding at Lightspace enabled us to style the venue exactly how we wanted. Our caterers, Sorella, were able to bring their fabulous food truck into the venue, which added a fun, modern vibe. We also hired some disco balls and extra lighting. We had two long tables, which were styled with lots of candles and floral arrangements by Fiflar Floral. Hayley from Sorella and Sheridan from Fiflar Floral were absolute god sends with styling and setting up the whole reception while we were off getting our photos. We were so grateful for them going above and beyond.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on? There was multiple non-negotiables for us.

Not surprisingly, I was happy to splurge on the flowers. As mentioned above, Fiflar Floral was such an angel and completely understood my vision from the get-go. Jordon’s family are massive foodies, so having delicious wedding food was a must – Sorella did not disappoint, and our guests could not stop raving about the food. Photography and videography were also so important to us. Courtney from Black Palm Collective and Sam from Modn Weddings captured our day so beautifully.

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

During the ceremony, the microphone cut out for Carly, our celebrant. She handled it with such grace, excused herself, and was back within moments with a new working mic. Jordon and I looked at each other when this happened and just started laughing. It lightened up the mood, and Carly was an absolute professional in dealing with the tech malfunction. You can’t plan for these things, and we look back on this and laugh at how funny it was.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

My wedding dress was designed and made by Kate Willa at Byron Bay. Shortly after we got engaged, I found myself on Kate’s Instagram page. I was in love with her designs and knew I had to go with her for my main wedding dress. The dress was very similar to a design Kate had done a few years prior, which made it an easy process to envision how the end result would look. The dress was multiple layers of georgette silk, had dramatic sleeves, an open back and a long train. It was the dress of my dreams.
