Kat + Trey by Elizabeth Pishal Photography

The theme was “Romeo & Juliet meets camp.”

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

Trey works in software sales and Kat manages artists, but beyond their careers they both share a love of travel, music, and art. Their relationship has always been fueled by creativity and a sense of adventure, so when it came time to plan their wedding, they wanted to reflect those passions in a way that felt deeply personal. Kat has a background in fashion through her family, and Trey balances her eye for design with a love of fun, people-focused gatherings. Together, they’re a perfect mix of sophistication and playfulness.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

We met at a DIY show in a Brooklyn bar called Carmelo’s in 2018, we’re friends for a year before we started dating. I thought Trey was handsome and obviously matched my lust for music and spontaneity. We sealed the deal at another Brooklyn DJ set at Nowadays a year later.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood and style of your wedding. (theme, key styling elements, florals, colour palettes etc.).

The theme was “Romeo & Juliet meets camp.” They wanted a wedding that felt both romantic and whimsical, yet relaxed and a little playful. Deep ruby reds and rich tones dominated the color palette, balanced with pops of blue for contrast. They leaned into the natural beauty of Teitiare Estate’s jungle and ocean backdrop, layering in personal elements like a custom family crest, wild florals, and Italian-inspired details. The mood was theatrical yet welcoming—like stepping into a love story written just for them.

What styling and visual elements worked best for you? (could be things, the florals, particular hire products or your marquee, etc., something the stylist created or simply just the scenic beauty of your location or the existing design of your venue).

The wild, colorful florals accented with Italian busts made a striking impression and tied everything back to the Romeo & Juliet inspiration. The couple also loved their mix of high-fashion and casual styling elements: metal camp plates sourced in Oaxaca paired with playful paper placemats. It was the contrast of elevated with unexpected touches that really made the setting unique. Of course, the beauty of the jungle and the dramatic coastline of Sayulita provided the most unforgettable backdrop of all.

What did you enjoy most about the planning process, and do you have any tips for couples starting their wedding planning journey?

Kat and Trey loved collaborating with their planner, Nicoella Events, to create a day that felt both stylish and true to themselves. They especially enjoyed weaving their personalities into the design details, like the crest and temporary tattoos. Their tip for other couples: don’t be afraid to blend the unexpected into your day. It’s those contrasts—like pairing fine art with camp plates—that bring your personalities to life and make the day memorable.

Tell us about your vendors. Were there any standout suppliers you would like to make special mention of?

The couple assembled a dream team of vendors. Nicoella Events went above and beyond to bring their creative vision to life. Francisco Salazar’s floral designs transformed the space into a lush, romantic setting. Jenn Chivers created timeless hair and makeup looks for Kat. Their band, Pug Band, and DJ Paladub kept the energy high into the night. And of course, the stunning photography by Elizabeth Pishal Photography ensured every meaningful detail was captured with artistry and heart.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, and is there a story?

Fashion was one of the day’s highlights. With her sister, a seasoned NYC stylist, Kat curated two couture looks that told the story of her personal style. She walked down the aisle in a rare vintage 1990s Dolce & Gabbana gown—timeless, dramatic, and chic. Later, she changed into a short, floral Alexander McQueen dress for the reception, a bold and romantic piece that captured the playfulness of the evening.

Trey complemented her fashion-forward style with his own distinctive look, opting for a powder blue jacket that stood out against the ocean backdrop. Finished with a unique silver clasp detail and paired with a relaxed linen shirt, his outfit struck the perfect balance of laid-back coastal charm and polished style. The vibrant boutonnière, rich in reds and purples, tied his look into the wedding’s color palette and added a fresh, personal touch. Together, their outfits were not only stylish but also a true reflection of their personalities—sophisticated, creative, and effortlessly cool.

Tell us about your wedding and engagement rings.

Bride’s wedding ring was vintage 1900’s pink Sapphire sourced at Thomas Glover Antiques – cements her love of antiques with a story & baby blue! Band was a piece sourced vintage that was under 1k because we wanted to devote our budget to the wedding 🙂

What were one or two elements that were most important to you both that you were happy to spend a little more on? (food, photography, florals, the venue, your outfits?).

For Kat and Trey, fashion and florals were at the top of the list. The couture gowns and the lush, wild floral arrangements brought so much personality and style to the day. They also prioritized photography, knowing that timeless images would allow them to relive the magic of their wedding for years to come.

Was there a favourite moment (or two) that you will treasure always?

Looking out during the ceremony, getting to explicate our love for each other in our whimsy nature. Seeing all of the people we love most gathered under the beating sun and sea breeze, the waves crashing and surfers in the distance taking it all in. Our favorite place to create love-filled traditions. It, felt like a fever dream in color!
