Kirsty + Lucas by Beck Rocchi

For our wedding, I wanted something sexy, romantic, and playful — basically, red roses and love hearts everywhere.

KIRSTY —— Lukas and I left Melbourne a few years ago in pursuit of a carefree, relaxed beach lifestyle on the Gold Coast. Lukas runs his own flooring business and I manage a luxury jewellery brand. We share a love for music, beach days, cocktails, and our beloved Frenchie fur babies, Cleopatra and Muchacho.

If you’d told us when we first met that we were going to get married, we would not have believed you. We met in our early twenties, in the back room of a nightclub called Onelove. After a botched attempt at a drunken pash, we avoided each other for years. Ten years later, we randomly went on a date, and the moment I saw Lukas again, I knew I wanted to marry him.

For our wedding, I wanted something sexy, romantic, and playful — basically, red roses and love hearts everywhere. We splurged on everything. We wanted it to be the best party we and our guests had ever been to. Of course, not all things went exactly to plan. The weather was stunning until the moment I had to leave the house. As soon as I stepped outside, the skies opened up. It absolutely poured.

We’d originally planned to do our pre-wedding photos and first look in Treasury Gardens, and for a moment, I thought we’d have to cancel it all. The car ride was tense, to say the least. But our photographer was a genius, pivoting instantly and finding the perfect wet weather location for a shoot. Crisis averted — or so we thought.

Later in the night, amid the dancing and the madness, someone sent our wedding cake flying. The venue managed to salvage a single sliver for me, which looked beautiful, but most of our guests didn’t get dessert that night. Sorry, everyone!

One of my absolute favourite parts of the day was the outfits. Velani was a dream to work with. I’m notoriously indecisive, and she somehow managed to navigate my constant changes of heart with grace. At the start of the year, I decided I wanted a pink dress, and from there, it became a mission to find the perfect shade and fabric. We landed on the most luxurious silk faille, and she created four separate pieces so I could actually wear my wedding gown again. I took the mini skirt on our honeymoon to New York and have loved getting to relive those wedding-day feelings in different ways.

Lukas, always up for a bit of a statement, wore my family’s traditional MacGillivray tartan kilt. It was a nod to my heritage — and, let’s be honest, he looked great in a skirt. For his second look, he changed into a custom suit jacket by Reigner, which was effortlessly cool. We always loved the pink and red colour combination. Together, we felt like our most authentic selves.
