Healthy, luminous skin begins long before the wedding day, with La Mer’s latest advances in skin science.
A new home in Auckland, a new generation of an icon, and a rather compelling reason to start thinking about your skin well before the big day.
Some beauty products quietly transcend the usual cycle of launches and newness. La Mer’s The Concentrate is one of them. Long regarded as one of the house’s most trusted formulas for calming, strengthening, and supporting compromised skin, the cult serum has entered a new chapter, with La Mer unveiling a next-generation formula built around an intriguing idea: helping skin respond better to stress in the first place.
And its arrival in New Zealand comes with equally exciting news. La Mer has found a beautiful new Auckland home at Faradays, with a dedicated counter inside the new luxury department store.
If you’ve already stepped inside the new Faradays, you will understand why the pairing feels so right. Beautifully designed, intimate and highly considered, this is boutique department-store shopping on a level we simply haven’t experienced in New Zealand before. In fact, little quite like it exists anywhere else in the world. Within this new environment, La Mer feels completely at home.
To celebrate both occasions, a select group of New Zealand media and ambassadors gathered at Gilt Brasserie in central Auckland this week for an intimate introduction to the new formula with La Mer Education Manager for Australia and New Zealand, Rosa Lam. Over lunch, we revisited some of La Mer’s most enduring skincare heroes before discovering the science behind the new-generation Concentrate. Gilt, housed within Auckland’s historic Chancery Chambers, provided an appropriately elegant setting for the occasion.

The new Concentrate
The story behind the new formula begins with something most of us know rather well: stress.
La Mer’s latest research looks at sensitivity not simply as a skin type, but as a spectrum. Environmental exposure, everyday irritation and aesthetic treatments can all cause visible reactivity, and La Mer‘s scientists have been studying the relationship between those stress responses, compromised barrier function and visible signs of ageing.
The resulting new formula introduces what La Mer calls Bio-Regenerative Skin Intelligenceâ„¢, a neuroscience-inspired approach designed to support the way skin responds and adapts to stress. At its heart is Concentrated Miracle Brothâ„¢, an amplified form of La Mer‘s signature Miracle Brothâ„¢, created through a cold-vacuum process. According to La Mer, the technology helps skin adapt more efficiently, recover and maintain greater resilience when faced with everyday aggressors.
This is joined by The NEW Clarity Algae, introduced to address the relationship between irritation and uneven tone, helping visibly diminish discolouration while discouraging new discolouration from forming. Lime Tea Concentrate, La Mer‘s proprietary antioxidant ingredient, helps protect against the visible effects of environmental stress and pollution.
The new Concentrate also uses La Mer‘s Liquid Barrier Delivery System, designed both to support the skin barrier and deliver the formula’s actives where they are needed.
And, importantly, it still feels La Mer unmistakably. The Concentrate retains its beautiful velvety texture and signature aromatic experience, with notes of lavender, rosemary, basil and helichrysum.

What does that actually mean for skin?
This is where the clinical results become particularly interesting.
According to La Mer‘s testing, after a single use, The Concentrate visibly inhibited redness from irritation by 34 per cent. With continued use, testing also showed a 21 per cent improvement in dermal density.
Barrier support is another focus. In separate clinical testing, La Mer reports a 38 per cent improvement in barrier repair after one use, with barrier resilience and integrity strengthened by 24 per cent following continued use.
That makes the thinking behind The Concentrate especially relevant when approaching a wedding or significant occasion. Anyone who has planned one knows the months leading up to it aren’t necessarily conducive to beautifully calm skin. There are late nights, deadlines, travel, weather, heightened beauty routines, and sometimes a sudden enthusiasm for peels, lasers, and treatments.
Rather than focusing only on the glow we want on the day, perhaps a more interesting conversation is skin conditioning: building a calm, hydrated, resilient complexion well in advance.
The new Concentrate is intended for use at least twice daily or as needed, followed by a La Mer moisturiser. And with La Mer now having its own beautiful presence at Faradays, New Zealand clients can explore the wider collection and build a regimen suited to their skin, rather than reaching for a single miracle product at the eleventh hour.
Which brings us to the questions we really wanted answered.

Ask La Mer: Preparing Your Skin for the Big Day
We asked Rosa Lam, the La Mer Education Manager for Australia and New Zealand. How she would approach skin conditioning for a wedding or important occasion, and where The NEW Concentrate fits into the picture.
If someone came to you six months out from their wedding and wanted their skin to look its absolute best, where would you begin?
When someone comes to me six months before their wedding, I always encourage them to think beyond the wedding day itself and focus on creating healthy-looking, resilient skin for the entire journey.
The months leading up to a wedding can be incredibly exciting, but they can also be demanding. Between venue visits, fittings, travel arrangements, celebrations and managing endless details, it’s common to experience changes in stress levels, sleep and routine. Often, the skin is one of the first places those pressures can show up.
My approach is to begin with a consistent skin-conditioning ritual that supports the skin barrier, deeply hydrates and helps maintain balance over time. Rather than looking for last-minute solutions, six months gives us the opportunity to nurture the skin gradually and thoughtfully, creating the foundation for long-lasting radiance.
At the heart of that programme is The NEW Concentrate, which helps support the skin barrier and encourages skin resilience. It becomes particularly valuable during periods of stress, travel and changing routines, helping skin remain comfortable, balanced and healthy-looking. Many brides are also incorporating professional skin treatments into their preparation plan, so supporting the skin between appointments is especially important.
The goal isn’t perfection. It’s creating skin that feels healthy, balanced and radiant so you can enjoy every special moment leading up to the celebration with confidence.

When would you recommend introducing The NEW Concentrate before a wedding or major occasion?
Ideally, I would introduce The NEW Concentrate as early as possible.
What makes it such a valuable addition to a bridal skincare ritual is its powerful combination of Miracle Brothâ„¢, Bio-Regenerative Skin Intelligenceâ„¢ and Clarity Ferment.
At the heart of the formula is 4X more Miracle Brothâ„¢, La Mer‘s renewing elixir known for helping strengthen and support healthier-looking skin. Paired with Bio-Regenerative Skin Intelligenceâ„¢, it helps skin become more adaptive and intuitive in responding to stress, helping support the skin both before signs of stress appear and during recovery afterwards. Clarity Ferment, powered by algae, helps visibly reduce redness and signs of irritation.
Together, these innovations help create skin that is calmer, stronger and more resilient. With consistent use, skin appears healthier, smoother and more luminous, creating the ideal canvas for makeup and helping you feel your most confident on the day itself.
Weddings can involve a perfect storm of skin stress: late nights, travel, changing climates, nerves and sometimes an ambitious programme of facials, peels or laser treatments. How can The Concentrate help support skin through this period, and how would you incorporate it around professional treatments?
The NEW Concentrate helps strengthen the skin barrier and build skin resilience over time. Its key ingredients, Miracle Brothâ„¢, Bio-Regenerative Skin Intelligenceâ„¢ and Clarity Algae, support the skin’s ability to adapt to stress and recover more effectively, making it particularly valuable for those whose skin shows signs of stress and those incorporating multiple professional treatments into their bridal preparation.
I recommend using it consistently before and after treatments, alongside the guidance of your skin professional, to help maintain comfort, balance and a healthy-looking complexion throughout the journey.

What would your ideal La Mer routine look like during the final week before a wedding?
The final week is all about consistency. This isn’t the time to experiment with new products or intensive treatments. Instead, focus on hydration, barrier support and maintaining the healthy-looking skin you’ve spent months preparing.
I begin with The Essence Foaming Cleanser and The Treatment Lotion, followed by The NEW Concentrate, The Eye Concentrate and Crème de la Mer. Together, they help support the skin barrier while maintaining comfort, hydration and radiance.
In the evenings, I return to The Treatment Lotion and The NEW Concentrate, finishing with The Rejuvenating Night Cream to support overnight recovery.
For an extra touch of bridal indulgence, I love incorporating The Treatment Lotion Hydrating Mask, The Renewal Oil, The Body Crème, The Lip Polish and The Lip Volumizer.
The final days are often filled with excitement, family, celebrations and very little downtime. A consistent ritual helps keep the skin calm, beautifully conditioned and wedding-day ready.
And finally, take us through the wedding morning. Before hair and makeup arrive, what would be your ultimate La Mer skin-preparation ritual for beautifully conditioned, calm, luminous skin that will sit well beneath makeup?
The morning of the wedding should feel like a moment of calm before the celebrations begin.
I would start with The Essence Foaming Cleanser followed by The Treatment Lotion, which floods the skin with hydration and prepares it to receive the benefits of the products that follow.
Next comes The NEW Concentrate, helping support the skin barrier and maintain a calm, balanced appearance, even after the excitement and lack of sleep that often come with wedding celebrations.
I would then apply The Eye Concentrate and Crème de la Mer, warmed between the fingertips and gently pressed into the skin to create a deeply hydrated, luminous base for makeup.
Finally, I would apply The Lip Volumizer and finish with The Body Crème on the décolletage, shoulders and arms to create beautifully conditioned skin that catches the light naturally.
My advice is simple: trust the ritual you’ve spent months building. The most beautiful bridal skin isn’t created on the wedding morning. It’s the result of consistent care that leaves skin looking healthy, resilient and effortlessly radiant when the big day arrives.

Conclusion:
For us, this may be the most appealing way to think about the new generation of The Concentrate. Great occasion skin shouldn’t really begin on the morning itself. It is something cultivated slowly, with consistency, restraint and a little forward planning.
And if that preparation happens to involve a visit to the beautiful new La Mer counter at Faradays, we can think of far worse places to begin.
