Laura + Jackson by Beck Rocchi

It was nearly on sunset and we had the whole river to ourselves, as we were walking along Jackson dropped to one knee, it was such a perfect moment and I was completely shocked.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

We have been together for 10 years and have lived in Victoria, Sydney and Tasmania together and have spent a fair bit of time in Noosa, Queensland. We got engaged in May 2021 and had our gorgeous girl Mackenzie in August 2022, back in our home state of Tassie. Laura is a stay-at-home mum at the moment, but in a previous life, was working as an Account Manager in Melbourne/Sydney and also did some reformer pilates instructing on the side. Jackson is the Victoria Sales Rep at his family-owned business, Island Block and Paving in Tasmania. We love being by the ocean, catching up with friends and family and spending quality time with our daughter.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

Funnily enough, we were born on the same day in the same hospital in 1994 in Launceston, Tasmania. It wasn’t until school days that we knew of each other, and I think we actually dated for a little bit in year 6 (haha). We went through years 11 and 12 together, and that’s when we officially started dating. We were so alike and had similar interests and future goals.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

I don’t remember there being a specific moment, but when we first started dating, Jackson moved over to Victoria to play AFL football, and I decided to stay home in Tassie to begin my university degree. We did two years of long distance, travelling back and forth to see each other, and I think at the ages of 19/20 years old, we did an incredible job to get through this and knew we could make anything work. We have always been a great team and have been making each other laugh since day one.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

We got engaged in 2021, and at the time, we were living in Geelong. Our favourite place was Barwon Heads, and one afternoon, after finishing work, we headed to the Barwon Heads River for a swim with our dog Hugo. It was nearly on sunset and we had the whole river to ourselves, as we were walking along Jackson dropped to one knee, it was such a perfect moment and I was completely shocked.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding.

As we got married in one of the most beautiful places in Australia, our backdrop was stunning and we felt we didn’t need much, the style we were going for was pretty simple. The colours in our florals and signage tied in with the pastel vibe we were going for, and all our guests got the theme and were in beautiful pastel and bright-coloured dresses. It was the most relaxing, happy and fun day which I felt was a reflection of our whole wedding vibe.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

We wanted the best food and beverages for everyone across the day; we had entrees, main and dessert at Ricky’s and gave everyone the option to choose their selection. We had endless cocktails from start to finish: aperols, espressos, and watermelon spritz!!

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

The weather!! The whole lead-up to the wedding day, it was predicting rain and thunderstorms; I had many sleepless nights stressing over this, but on the day, it couldn’t have been more perfect; we had blue skies up until late afternoon when we had a little bit of cloud cover. I think it ended up raining for about 5 minutes at midnight!

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

Bride – I always thought that I would end up choosing and wearing a simple but elegant strapless dress; funnily enough, I only went to one boutique on the Sunshine Coast when we were holidaying earlier in the year, and I tried on 4 dresses and picked number 4!

Groom – We wanted to fit the coastal, beachy, relaxed vibe of Noosa, and these linen beige suits were perfect for this
