Lizzy + Harry by Heather Sham

When I found out they could do the dress in pink, I was sooooold!

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

We both work in fintech, starting off as Software Engineers and Software Tester; we met at work!

Harry has now set up his own credit card business, and Lizzy is an engineer manager!
We love our dog Bear, three years old – still and huge handful and always on a training spree – he’s a Bedlington Terrier and our brand new 4-day-old (24/06/24) son Laurie.

We love cocktails and walking and music and all that good stuff.
We also love a house project – doing up our homes, designing and building! Collecting silly artwork. Turns out Harry can build furniture – he kept that quiet until we moved in together!

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

We met in the office! I was obsessed with Harry since the day he started, he was so clever and kind, very down to earth, he works so hard and was soooo modest.

Before we got married, we went back and looked through all those first work messages we sent each other, and they were SOO embarrassing – it was hilarious.

It took Harry a little longer to notice me—although he won’t admit to it! But eventually, he was dragged to a New Year’s Eve party I was hosting, and I finally got that midnight kiss!

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

We went to Vegas with some friends in Feb 2020 – followed by Mexico – the holiday was great, but the same day we arrived home in March, the world went into Lockdown – we decided to live together for the first time when my roommate went home to stay with his mum, and we had the best time together – I realised I didn’t want to ever not live with Harry, so by the end of the year we brought our first home together! This was not in my life plans – I had always wanted to try to live alone, but it was so easy with Harry.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

We had always planned to get engaged in 2022 – so I was getting ready and excited by the end of 2021 – thinking THIS IS THE YEAR.

But Harry very, very sneakily snuck in a proposal on Christmas Eve 2021 when I least expected it. He really wanted it to be a surprise, and it was amazing; I had absolutely no idea!

He proposed on a dog walk in Epping Forest and I was soooo shocked I just kept saying “I didn’t know you were going to do that!” After a while, we realised the dog and snuck off (only a little further ahead). We were so happy! He’s hidden champagne and prepared a meal for us to enjoy together and at home, and then we got to tell our families on Christmas Day!

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

Heather, our photographer, was absolutely incredible. She was a huge inspiration for the wedding itself, making us think about things we had not considered before!

And the FOOD!!!! The food was stunning!

I dream about food to this day. It’s so sad we can’t just go to banquets for food at the time!

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

I had specifically asked the DJ to avoid playing things like “Cotten Eye Joe,” and that appeared to be the first song he played! The music was not the one! We still enjoyed it, and seeing my parents dance together to “My neck, my back” was a huge highlight of the day. My dad does some amazing foot-hopping dances.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story? The history of the ceremony dress…

I never wanted a traditional wedding dress, but I still wanted it to be formal; Harry had actually booked me a trip to NYC for my 30th birthday, so I jumped at the chance to try on some Sarah Seven dresses! When I found out they could do the dress in pink, I was sooooold!

I thought that as long as I still had a veil and flowers, everybody would still know I was the bride!

Loved it. Then the Barbie movie came out, and pink became pretty cool.
