Love + Architecture

Love & architecture, a modern romance in a Portuguese subterranean winery

Less is more, but style is everything. Embracing the elegance of simplicity, this editorial presents a glimpse into the modern and stylish wedding for a chic couple who said “I do” in a contemporary setting. From sleek decor to elegant attire, this editorial captures the essence of sophistication and love. With special emphasis on the architectural wonders and structural floral splendour – the perfect match we were looking for.

This editorial showcases the beauty of minimalism, where every detail is purposefully chosen to enhance the overall aesthetic. The sleek decor is a testament to the modern couple’s taste, featuring clean lines and understated elegance that allow the natural beauty of the setting to shine through. The couple’s attire complements this theme, with the bride in a simple yet stunning gown and the groom in a tailored suit, both exuding timeless style. This refined approach ensures that the focus remains on the couple and their love story rather than on any superfluous elements.

The standout element of this editorial is undoubtedly the floral sculptures, which, inspired by Herdade do Freixo’s round shapes, are an extension of the space, with its striking architecture, but in a softer and more romantic tone. These floral installations are more than mere decorations; they are art pieces that enhance the space, creating a harmonious blend of nature and architecture. The florals’ organic forms juxtapose beautifully against the sleek lines of the modern setting, adding a touch of romance and softness that balances the contemporary design.

From the winery’s sculptural opulence to the sophisticated details of the wedding design, every element was meticulously curated to create an experience that is both visually stunning and emotionally captivating. The winery’s architecture provided a dramatic backdrop that elevated the entire event, and its grandeur mirrored in the wedding’s design elements. Each detail, from the table settings to the invitations, was thoughtfully selected to align with the overall theme, ensuring a cohesive and immersive experience for the couple and their guests.

The use of direct flash was intentional, aligning with the modernity of the space and bringing a more editorial approach to the photographs. This technique, often used in high-fashion photography, added a layer of sophistication and a contemporary edge to the wedding photos. Additionally, the use of black and white photography highlighted the timelessness we wanted to convey in this editorial, elevating it. The monochromatic palette stripped away distractions, allowing the emotions and intricate details to take centre stage, ultimately crafting a classic and modern narrative.
