MICHAELA + CALLUM by Jesse and Jessie Weddings

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…

We live in Hamilton with our cat Pixie. Micky is a HRIS Product Specialist and Callum is a high school Geography teacher. We have a love for travel and exploring new places, having spent the last 2 years living and working in London.

We got engaged in Cappadocia, Turkey. We love exploring places whether it be abroad or in our own backyard. Our relationship is built on fried chicken, beer, road trips, adventure and a great love for one another. Probably most couples will say this, but we are best friends. We are not afraid of being ourselves, just being absolute dorks, making up handshakes and doing karaoke while cooking dinner.

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…

We both have a love for the coast and a wedding by the sea seemed like a natural fit. Initially we looked at Hawaii, then Samoa but sePled in the end on Raglan. We live in Hamilton so having our wedding venue close by was a big bonus. In the months leading up to the big day, we spent many weekends in Raglan, catching up with local vendors and enjoying everything the seaside town has to offer. We had a bridal party where they got ready with us on the day, however they didn’t stand up there with us or have matching outfits. We wanted a relaxed vibe. Callum proposed in Turkey, with a ring he bought from a little shop in Greece. When we got back to London, we took a day trip to Brighton to pick one out together. The Greece ring had a few diamanté’s missing, but Micky took it to a jeweller and got it fixed and wore it on the day. Was a nice little surprise as I thought she had lost it. The theme was a relaxed Tuscan alfresco wedding. We loved the idea of having the whole wedding outside, we just wanted to keep it super simple but beautiful. With long tables running under festoon lights. It was amazing to eat, drink and be merry under the night sky. Our florist did an amazing job, I loved all the flowers on the tables. Made a good little gift to give the Aunties the next day.

Tell us about your main outfits:

Callum decided on a black suit by Barkers thinking it’s not oVen you get the chance to go all out. Micky’s dress – I am quite small so I knew I was going to need to get a dress made for my size. I wanted is simple and classic.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?

Callum and his groomsmen getting the chance to catch some waves the morning of the wedding. Micky getting the chance to see the reception area all set (Thanks Bridget!!) up prior to arriving at the ceremony. Celebrating with our bridal party after saying ‘I DO’ popping bottles of champagne on the hillside overlooking the sea. Jesse was so good, he just allowed us to have a moment with our friends and captured that, there were hardly any forced posed photos – Mick and I both go stiff and awkward every time someone says ‘act candid’. Walking down the hill through the fruit trees to our reception with ‘sweet Caroline’ blaring. It was so cool to look down on the reception and see everyone.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?

Enjoy the moment!! I know its cliché but the day goes so fast, before you know it, you’re waking up the next day and it all seems like a dream. If you can I would highly recommend a good videographer. Our video (Jesse and Jessie ) is epic, it brings the day to life and captures all the energy and memories of the day. If you can afford it, get yourself a Bridget. We absolutely loved her. Mick is a classic stressor and we both knew that we needed someone to organise the day from setting up the tables to any mishaps on the day. Callum’s piece of advice – get a drone! (haha Callum was obsessed over this and probably asked Jesse about 10 times if he had one).
