Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
We are (now) Nazaria and Jordan Maxey. Jordan, Jordie, is a Kiwi, and Nazaria is a Kiwi-American. We both live in the UK and have done so for the past 5 years because we love travelling and learning about new cultures, and London is the perfect base for that. New Zealand will always be our home, though. Jordie works as an electrician, and Nazaria works in Pathology IT.
How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
We met when Nazaria was living in New Zealand for a few years of high school. We met at a house party 3 weeks before she was moving back to the States. Jordie was 19 and Nazaria was 16. We met because Nazaria put on the 2012 classic Holdin’ On by Flume, and Jordie had to know who was playing that. Jordie thought Nazaria had great taste in music; Nazaria thought Jordie was very good-looking. We spent the next 3 weeks sneaking all the chances we could to see each other. Nazaria even left her own party to spend a few moments (maybe hours) alone with Jordie. Nazaria was in the States for the next 3 years before moving back to Wellington to finish uni at Victoria University. The first week back in Wellington, we met and have been together ever since! We moved to London 8 months after Nazaria finished uni.
When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?
Jordie: When I realized I only wanted to spend time with Nazaria, no one else. Nazaria: Watching Jordie grow and develop as a person, always being open-minded.
Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
Jordie proposed when we were on a week-long trip through Switzerland. We hired a Camper Van and drove through some of the most spectacular places we’d ever seen. We parked up for the night in Grindelwald, took a lift to the top of the mountain, set up his camera for a self-timer, and this is where Jordie dropped a knee.
What was one element you were happy to splurge on?
The food!! We had a tasting at Le Cucine di Masseria when we were checking out the venue in Easter 2023, and it was the most incredible food we had ever tasted. Everything was so fresh and both absolutely stuffed ourselves the whole time.. we are both foodies and wanted all of our guests to have more of a culinary experience at the wedding. There were chefs making panzerotti and mozzarella as part of the appetizer buffet.
Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?
Jordie and his Groomsman hadn’t learnt to tie the Bowtie until an hour before the ceremony, where they had to call in reinforcements of Jordies Father and brother-in-law to help learn the art of the Bowtie. Surprisingly, the girls had no stress!
Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story? The history of the ceremony dress…
Nazaria found a few dresses she loved at Morgan Davies Bridal. The day she went back to pick one of them, the designer of the one she had been dreaming about (and pretty much knew she was going to choose)was visiting the boutique! It was kind of overwhelming to be standing in a wedding dress in front of the person who designed it, but Stephanie was incredible and even sketched Nazaria in the dress with all the slight adjustments they decided on together. The dress is called Stella. Nazaria also wore the same earrings her mother wore on her wedding day and plans to pass these down if she has a daughter who wants to get married one day.
