Valerie Thompson’s perspective offers an intimate and emotive lens
There is something special about this second instalment, captured backstage at New York Bridal Fashion Week by long-time friend of Together Journal, Valerie Thompson. Valerie’s journey with us feels like a full circle moment, or perhaps even two. From having her own wedding featured in print, to seeing her work as a wedding photographer published across both print and online, and now photographing NYBFW for us to feature, it speaks to the kind of relationships TJ values so deeply. We love our photographers and our community, and it means a lot to grow alongside them in this way.Â

We also always love seeing these shows captured by wedding photographers with an editorial eye. There is a sensitivity to mood and feeling that they bring, an ability to see beyond the runway, so you can almost imagine each look worn by a bride or guest in a real moment. It is a different eye, and one we are endlessly drawn to.

In this second look at Alexandra Grecco’s Dream, Baby, Dream collection, Valerie’s backstage perspective offers a more intimate lens on one of the week’s standout presentations. Inspired by silent film icon Louise Brooks, the collection draws on the glamour and duality of early twentieth-century cinema, while maintaining the brand’s distinctly modern sensibility.

Seen up close, the fluidity of the silhouettes becomes even more apparent. Gowns move with a quiet ease, capturing the languid elegance of the era while holding onto Grecco’s signature balance of sensuality and restraint. There is a softness to the construction, paired with a precision that feels both contemporary and considered.

The styling, too, takes on new life backstage. Cropped hairstyles, short veils and 1920s-inspired headpieces reveal their detail in a more personal way, reinforcing the cinematic references without overwhelming the modernity of the designs. It is in these moments that the collection’s narrative feels most tangible.

Versatility remains a defining thread. Beyond the ceremony, pieces are designed to move through the rhythm of the day, from getting ready to after-party, reflecting the evolving nature of modern weddings and the desire for wardrobes that feel adaptable yet cohesive.

Founded in 2014 and made to order in New York’s Garment District, Alexandra Grecco continues to centre individuality at the core of her work. Rich textures, fluid fabrics and thoughtful detailing come together to create pieces that feel both luxurious and effortless.

Through Valerie’s lens, Dream, Baby, Dream reveals a softer, more emotive dimension, deepening our appreciation for a collection already rich in story, craftsmanship and modern romance.
