Oliver + Emily by Jack Jones

Oli successfully wooed Emily with his excellent cooking and she realised that if she played her cards right she would never have to cook again.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
We live in the Northern Beaches in Sydney with our two beautiful dogs and love to be outdoors as much as possible – hiking, surfing, kayaking, etc. We also love skiing (when we can tear ourselves away from the Northern Beaches).

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
We were introduced by a mutual friend at after-work drinks in the Sydney CBD. Emily immediately noticed Oli stride in with purpose and we spent the whole night ignoring our friends and chatting about our love of skiing.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?
Things progressed quickly when Emily’s apartment was undergoing renovations and she sneak-moved in with Oli after only 2 months of dating. We have barely spent a night apart since. Oli successfully wooed Emily with his excellent cooking and she realised that if she played her cards right she would never have to cook again.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
Emily asked for a weekend away at Paperbark Camp in Jervis Bay as a luxe Christmas present. Oli blanched at the expense but then realised he could make it double up as a proposal weekend thus eliminating the need for further expenditure on romantic weekends away. Oli then tricked Emily into choosing the walk on Saturday morning (in between heavy downpours of rain) and choosing the location of the proposal.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…
Casual and beachy – as low key and relaxed as possible.

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?
Between covid border closures and the heavy rain of Summer 2022, there were a few stresses along the way. Fortunately the WA border opened the week before the wedding and Oli’s friends and family from WA were able to attend. A last minute panic occurred when the Council wasn’t able to confirm if they would be able to mow the grass at the wedding venue due to the wet weather (which was nearly knee-deep) – fortunately they pulled out all the stops and got it done in time.
