Rachel + Matthew by Alice Andre Photography

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, and what is unique about you and your relationship:

Matt and I have been together for eight years, we met back in 2014 through a mutual friend and the help of Instagram. Matt works as a technician for Mercedes Benz in Brighton, Melbourne, and I work as a nanny and aftercare consultant, I also have an online e-commerce store where I sell jewellery & accessories.

We both love to stay healthy and fit, we love to travel, and we love fashion. I think the unique thing about our relationship is how opposite we are, but somehow we just work; we really do balance each other out. The love we have for one another is really special; we believe that our being opposite makes our relationship really strong as they say, opposites do attract!

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details:

Our special day took four tries, thanks to covid! We had planned to get married back in October 2020 but of course, that changed and we tried to plan so many times after that until we finally got there, and the day was magical! The weather held up and we were able to celebrate the day with our closest family and friends. We had a small wedding of 75 guests and that’s what made it perfect. We loved having a small wedding, it made it worthwhile. We had a rustic theme that was really elegant and chic. We never planned to have a theme but I guess that’s just the way it worked out and we wouldn’t change it for the world! I loved the details in the cutlery, crockery and the crystal glassware! The flowers and the little fairy lights were gorgeous! We wish we could do it all over again. It truly was such a special day and worth the wait!

Tell us about your main outfits:

For me it took me a while to find what I wanted, I knew I had to have my dress made because I had a specific look and style. After my original plan didn’t work out I ended up coming across this amazing designer in Europe and they were incredible, talking to me through WhatsApp and communicating with me by sending images and through FaceTime. The process was smooth and easy, once I got my dress I needed to make adjustments where I had it altered with eternal weddings and alterations, the ladies were so lovely and so efficient. They also made my veil!

Matt had a shirt tailor-made with a suit maker. Unfortunately it was a while ago and we can’t remember the name as he was an individual business. All in all we were both so happy with our outfits.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day:

The break in between the ceremony and reception; we went to crown towers to one of our suites and had food and drinks with our immediate families. It was just such a special time where we got to reflect and just relax before a huge night ahead! We loved the reception. The speeches were our favourite as they had so much meaning to them.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together:

Make sure you’re happy, relaxed and take on no stress! If it’s stressing you out then it’s not a good decision. My process was so relaxing I enjoyed negotiating and planning. It was so fun and that’s exactly how it should be for the couple!

Have a lot of love, fun and don’t take things too seriously, life is too short. Talk about things when it’s needed. Support, listen and guide each other and always have respect for one another. Have fun always. Finding your soulmate is magical.
