Frank and I were high school sweethearts. We met through a friend of mine at the time who was dating Frank’s cousin. We were all hanging out and from there Frank started texting me.
Everything on our wedding day went to plan! It’s hard to believe how well it went – there were no glitches (that we were aware of). We were fortunate to have a great team of people who also worked so well together.
The location really suited both of us – I fell in love with the vintage/rustic setting and Frank loved it to because it backed onto Pongakawa Forest and he is of course a mad hunter! The vintage chandeliers above the bridal table are my favourite detail, as well as the floral installations surrounding the venue. A favourite personal touch of ours was the gold horse and deer on the place settings, chosen because of my background with horses and Frank’s love for the forest and hunting.
There were so many memorable moments but at the top would definitely be spending a beautiful morning with my favourite girls, sipping champagne and getting pampered! Then arriving at the venue with my dad was a feeling I can’t describe – as he walked me down the aisle I couldn’t stop looking at my handsome husband and how beautiful everything looked! Frank’s family did a haka during the speeches, which is a family tradition, and I think we were both feeling quite emotional at that point, it was very touching. Our bridal party also contributed to making the day so magical. We had so many wonderful laughs, especially while having photos taken, and they put together an entry dance to the reception while Frank and I were finishing our photos. It was spectacular and really set the mood for the evening with all our guests!
Our advice would be to totally enjoy every moment, don’t stress or panic. Everyone said the same to me and I always thought ‘yeah that’s what they all say’. But it’s so true! The day goes so fast that it’s important to enjoy every moment and take time out at some stage for just the two of you – sit back and observe the fun everyone’s having!
Married life so far is great, we’re having such a wonderful time as husband and wife. You gain another level of love for one another. It’s like an exciting new adventure for two and definitely the best feeling!
