Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…
Simon is a Fibre Optics Technician and I’m a Packaging & Graphics Designer. We live in Sydney with our two big boys (dogs – Border Collies).
Simon and I have been together for 10 years, this year – the year we got married will be 11. He was my first boyfriend, first love and I like to joke first husband, lol just kidding.
I think if you were to ask our friends what’s uniquely us they would say everything! We often do our own thing, have our couple quirks, well.. maybe more than a couple. I guess the simplest way to put it is we get each other, and laugh about the rest.
Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…
Our Wedding Day was such a perfect memory when I look back, I always have a goofy smile. One of our ‘couple quirks’ we can be a bit socially awkward. A big wedding sent both me and Simon into a state of panic. So I thought stuff it! Let’s do a Frank Sinatra – We’re doing this our way, it was super small (40 people) and I was in a big fluffy dress in a forest. We had photos at our first date spot, Avoca Beach and ate at a beyond charming restaurant. We drank, ate, danced and laughed.
No Cakes, No speeches, No bouquets. JUST FUN!!!
We just kept it simple – so not to focus on anything else but us, and our closest friends and family.
The Forest Chapel, was decorated in a Boho style, vintage mismatched coloured vases with wild looking flowers, grazing table, and Pop Up Bar.
The Restaurant, was styled to be a touch more romantic and moody. We had vintage gold candle holders and cooper vases (that my mum found in boots sales and vintage shops) filled with a selection of our florists creative genius. She styled everything so perfectly, it created this really great atmosphere for the night.
A detail I loved was the gift bags – every one got a Love or Chakra Crystal gift set.. for only Good Vibes.
Another would be our photographers: Not that they’re a detail – they were SUCH big players in our day. They helped set the tone so much. Corinna bonded with me over our love of figure skating, and Dylan and Simon talked about soccer teams – This may seem trivial but it helped relax us, and made us laugh – they fit in seamlessly with our family and friends. Because it was so small, I couldn’t imagine how our day would have gone not having them there.
Tell us about your main outfits:
My dress was off-white (a tinge of pink), It was so fun. I left my hair down and what we got on the day was a look I felt was classic and fun. Simon’s suit was a two coloured, dark burgundy on the bottom and soft brown up top. It was both different enough for him not to feel like it was his other suits, and matched our wedding style well I think. And the fun experience of him customising his own suit was great to see.
What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?
Wow – So many. I think because it was so small I got to speak to everyone – we all had a moment. I remember looking around and seeing everyone laughing, and was like this is exactly what I wanted. The room was full of life and love. I guess thats the most important moment – is actually having one! So many brides feel their day flew past – I feel like Simon and I were totally present.
Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?
I can’t tell you how many people have said to me they wished they had a small wedding like mine, if they had their time again or if they were strong enough to stand up to their family. I just want to remind you that it’s okay to do what you want to do. You’re not being selfish or harsh. You are creating your day, the day that you and your partner will remember forever. So back yourself brides and grooms. Plus smaller weddings allow for 2 honeymoons! lol.
