I don’t remember the moment we met. I was five years old and Joel was just my brothers friend, but we were in the same church group and there was some small talk and joke-exchanging over the years.

It wasn’t until we met up years later to go travelling with mutual friends that we saw the light in each other’s eyes. Things moved pretty quickly from there. I think some people find it annoying how inseparable we are, and we’re okay with that. Joel passionately seeks ways to show love to me and his proposal included macadamia trees lit with fairy lights, dancing to our first-date song, and a lot of hand-written letters. Marriage isn’t about signing a paper or the opportunity to express your style. While those things are awesome, we believe marriage exists to demonstrate the love of God in every season and to be in the blessed state of mutual service to him. We wanted to create a sense of unity amongst our wedding guests so we decided to seat everyone on three long tables. Having lived in Italy for six months and fallen in love with its culture, we wanted to incorporate this into the styling, so we used a lot of olive leaves for the garlands and table runners, and there were huge floral arrangements and candlesticks along the tables. Joel got mud on his white trousers, I lost the back of my earrings twice during the ceremony, and left my bouquet behind, but the things that didn’t go to plan are now some of our favourite memories. We were so excited to leave the reception as husband and wife that we started running and our photographer and videographer almost tripped trying to capture the moment!
