Rory William Docherty AFW 2024

Rory William Docherty Makes New Zealand Proud at Australian Fashion Week 2024.

What a thrill to see our very own Rory William Docherty on the runway at Australian Fashion Week, making New Zealand proud.

His collection of 35 looks was a considered and impactful display of his design talent. With a mainly monochromatic palette, Docherty utilised strong lines and purposeful shapes, allowing hints of color to emerge through hand-painted prints and crushed silk, cotton, and silk organza sculptural embellishments.

This collection continues the narrative of his previous work, designed to be cohesive with prior pieces beloved by his loyal followers, while also pushing boundaries and introducing fresh, new looks to build upon.

Docherty‘s collection exuded a distinctly New Zealand feel, with a slightly darker edge that is characteristic of the Australian nation’s fashion scene.

Interesting metallic textures and fabric embellishments softened the darker palette, creating a captivating contrast. The shapes were sculptural and voluminous, skimming the body in a way that felt both innovative and wearable.

Notably, parts of the collection were repurposed and reused, highlighting the designer’s commitment to sustainability.

Adding to the excitement, iconic New Zealand model couple Michael Whittaker and Meike van Roij brought this collection to life on the runway, making the showcase a memorable moment in Australian Fashion Week.
