Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship:
Rosie: I am 24 years old, I work as a medical secretary and I love to work in theatre as well. Jamie: I am 26 years old, I currently work for an anaesthetist and I am finishing my law degree. I’ve written a children’s book and I also run a publishing house!
We met through family friends and had known each other for a few years before we started hanging out and subsequently dating. We’ve been together for five years and for the first four years we did long-distance as Jamie lived in Canberra for his university degree. We always have a project going, whether its a new business or just something to do with our hands. We are both really interested in design and enjoy diy so we like to refurbish old furniture in our spare time (in our parent’s garages as we live in an apartment).
Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details:
We had our wedding planned with just a few details to organise when our original venue had an issue with some renovations and told us with 6 weeks to go that they couldn’t host our wedding that year! Rosie bought her dress the next week as Melbourne came out of level 4 lock-down, but we didn’t have a venue to get married at! We had a pretty stressful week as we hunted high and low for a venue that was available, and that would be willing to try to take a wedding on even with further potential lock-downs and unknown restrictions! We were lucky enough to find Goona Warra who were immediately both sympathetic and really helpful and we were able to lock them in a few days later. So we totally replanned our wedding in 6 weeks! Thank fully, our brilliant photographer (Georgia), videographer (Greg), and our florist (Emily) were all still available!
We both love trees, and wanted to feel as though we were getting married in a really lush greenhouse or garden. Jamie organised to hire trees to deck out both the reception and the venue. We had mature birch trees and maples, as well as immature maples and ornamental pears. No style – just lush. We brought the trees in ourselves the day before the wedding with Jamie directing the placement and did them up with chocolate coloured hessian and fairy lights down the trunks with our bridal party. Rosie also made the bridesmaid’s robes by hand and created a wooden name sign for outside the ceremony (which now sits in our apartment!). Rosie’s Dad also did another sign to hang over the Great Hall.
Tell us about your main outfits:
Rosie’s dress was Martina Liana, it was an ivory couture dress with 3D matte lace flowers and a long scallop edge train, and to highlight that she chose a very modern short veil.
Jamie’s suit was a cream suit from M.J. Bale, with a blue silk scarf and bow tie and boots from RM Williams.
What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day:
For Rosie, it was walking down the aisle and seeing the ceremony area completely transformed by North St! It had practically been turned into an absolutely gorgeous rose garden, and then to also see all the friends and family she had been missing for the whole year, and then of course seeing Jamie at the end of the aisle waiting for her.
For Jamie, it was seeing Rosie coming down the aisle in her dress, all of a sudden everything was real.
We also had a fiasco during the photography time, as Rosie cut her foot quite badly on a thorn in the long grass. It ended up getting infected pretty quickly and that evening we needed topical antibiotics as her foot had totally swollen! Both survived the honeymoon though, so no serious complaints. We also now have a pretty funny photo of Jamie wiping the blood from Rosie’s foot with his handkerchief.
Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together:
Always say please and thank-you, and be kind to each other.
