The New Drop We’re Taking Into Wedding + Occasion Season
Some bags you buy because you need them; others have the power to make an outfit. SABEN’s latest arrival has plenty of the latter, with pieces made for weddings, celebrations and all the occasions that fill a summer social calendar.
ELSEWHERE, the New Zealand accessories house’s Spring/Summer 2026 collection is an ode to stepping away from the noise and finding the places, people and moments that bring us back to ourselves. Think long summer days, green spaces, a little escapism and the delicious feeling of having nowhere particularly urgent to be.
It’s an idea that feels especially good heading into summer and, happily for us, Drop Two lands just as wedding and occasion season begins to gather momentum.
The collection itself takes its palette from nature, moving through soft Willow, Quartz and Oyster, richer Cacao and Tan, with a glorious shot of Azalea thrown into the mix. Much of the collection is crafted in SABEN’s signature Luxe Leather, while croc embossing, leather braid and macramé bring texture and a slightly more dressed-up sensibility.
And this is where Drop Two, which has just landed, becomes particularly interesting for us.
Meet Azalea
If there is one colour destined to find its way into our summer wardrobes, Azalea might be it. SABEN describes the shade as deeper than watermelon and livelier than raspberry, but really, it is simply a very good pink. Bright, feminine and unapologetically joyful, it arrives across some of the brand’s most useful smaller silhouettes.
The Coco Mini Bag is particularly charming in Azalea, with its elongated proportions and gold chain detail giving it enough polish for an occasion without tipping into traditional evening-bag territory. The Tilly and Tilly’s Big Sis also receive the Azalea treatment, alongside Oyster and Tan, making these familiar SABEN favourites feel entirely new for summer.
For wedding guests, we can see Azalea being brilliant with everything from chocolate and burgundy to soft pink, cream, butter yellow or a beautifully cut black dress. It’s also exactly the kind of accessory that can wake up something already hanging in your wardrobe, which we are always in favour of.
For the bride? Look to Oyster and Champagne
While bridal accessories have traditionally occupied a fairly narrow territory, we much prefer the idea of choosing something beautiful enough for the wedding but useful long after it.
Enter Oyster. Cool, soft and sitting somewhere in that lovely space between cream and greige, it is one of Drop Two’s most sophisticated additions. SABEN calls it the colour that “goes with everything without trying”, and we tend to agree.
The Oyster Coco Mini would make a gorgeous companion for a civil ceremony, rehearsal dinner, bridal lunch or the wedding day itself. For something with a little more shimmer, the Haven Shoulder Bag arrives in Champagne with a metallic finish, offering just enough glow against ivory, silk, satin or tailoring without feeling overly bridal.
We also like the larger Gita Shoulder Bag and Milan Carry-All in Oyster for the wider wedding wardrobe. Think travelling to a destination wedding, the morning-after brunch, or simply having one excellent pale neutral bag to carry throughout the honeymoon.
A little texture goes a long way
Some of our favourite pieces from ELSEWHERE are the woven styles. The Lulu and Lucia Shoulder Bags arrive in black and tan macramé, while the Claudia appears in Tan Braid.
There is something wonderfully summery about them. They would be completely at home at an outdoor wedding, a long lunch in Tuscany, a ceremony by the sea or thrown over your shoulder with a silk slip dress for cocktails somewhere warm. They bring texture to an outfit rather than competing with it, which can be particularly useful when occasion dressing starts becoming a little too polished.
It is also indicative of where SABEN sits today. Founded in New Zealand, the brand has grown into a familiar presence in wardrobes across Australasia while continuing to evolve beyond the idea of the purely practical handbag. In April 2025, SABEN also became B Corp certified, formalising its ongoing commitments around social and environmental responsibility. The brand works with two family-run factories in Guangzhou and uses top-grain leather sourced from a Leather Working Group Gold Standard certified tannery.
For ELSEWHERE, photographer Georges Antoni took the collection into Sydney’s Centennial Park, where all that leather, weaving and saturated colour is photographed against water, grasses and lush summer green. It is romantic without being saccharine and fashion-forward without trying too hard, which feels rather right for SABEN.
Most importantly, these are occasion bags that don’t have to live as occasion bags. Wear the Coco with your wedding-guest dress on Saturday, then with denim on Monday. Carry Oyster for your ceremony and take it on your honeymoon. Bring the macramé Lucia to a destination wedding and keep wearing it all summer.
