Sam + Corrina by Emma Macaulay

We had also always envisioned incorporating a ‘country’ element into our day.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

Sam is a 29-year-old farmer, and Corrina is a 28-year-old physiotherapist. We have been together for 11 and a half years after meeting when we were teenagers. We live in the Wheatbelt in Western Australia on Sam’s family farm and are currently in the middle of renovating our house, which takes up a lot of our spare time. We both love being outdoors, being by the beach in Western Australia, playing football and netball, going for runs or walks together, travelling and spending time with our family and friends.

We also love to spoil our little Kelpie Nala; she is the best.

We love making each other laugh, and there certainly isn’t a dull moment in our household.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

We met in 2011 when we were 17 and 16 years old at the Kulin Bush Races in Western Australia. We were introduced by a mutual friend at the time. Despite the family farms that we grew up on being 45 minutes apart, we had never met until this day, as our paths had never crossed.

Sam had just finished high school, and Corrina was in year 11.

Although neither of us like to admit it, we both definitely knew of each other.

We were both pretty young at the time, so it was a slow burn.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

Growing up together since we were teenagers, there was never really a moment for either of us as we were so young when we first met. We just knew life with each other was easy and fun. We make each other laugh or smile every day, we have the same values and interests and as we got older we both just knew we would spend the rest of our lives together..

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

We got engaged on Lake Louise near Banff in Canada whilst on a holiday there in 2023.

Sam lived and worked in Canada for five months in 2018 and knew that this was where he wanted to propose. He waited until the last day that we were in Canada before heading to America and convinced me (Corrina) to go to visit Lake Louise instead of another day on the slopes. The lake was frozen over at the time, so we decided to walk across the road to the other side. Sam yelled out that he had spotted a moose, I fell for it trying to see if i could also see it. By the time that I realised that he was joking, I turned around and Sam was on one knee with a ring in his hand. After ten years together, I was still in shock haha. We then spent the afternoon having celebratory drinks and Facetiming our family and friends back in Australia to share the news. It was pretty special.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding.

We love to spend time at Bunker Bay at Sam’s Aunty and Uncle’s property whenever we get the chance. From early on in our relationship, we had always talked about having our family and friends stay at this location for our wedding to make the most of the weekend. Having grown up in the country and currently living on a farm, we had also always envisioned incorporating a ‘country’ element into our day. We had been driving past Bunker Bay Farm for so many years and had always talked about how special it would be to get married there, overlooking one of our favourite beaches with the ‘farm style’ element added in. I think we always knew that we would end up getting married there. We had a lot of our family and friends stay in houses along Bunker Bay or surrounding this area for the wedding, which was so special as we got to spend the lead-up to the day and the days following with them all in one of our favourite places.

This was our biggest vision that we had for our day and the rest just fell into place as we were planning.

All of our vendors were so incredible to work with, and they definitely helped us bring it all to life.

We really just wanted a love-filled day with our family and friends, so when we got overwhelmed with decisions, we tried to come back to what was ‘Corrina and Sam’ so we felt like our day was truly ‘us’.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

Our food – we always knew that we wanted a sit-down wedding as we loved the social element of sitting down to enjoy a shared-style meal and discussing what each person’s favourite dish is. Sam and I love to do this when we order shared dishes at a restaurant. Supper Road was a no-brainer for us. We had been to a few weddings with their catering, and they were just unreal. They lived up to our expectations. Sam’s brother and sister in law’s business also supplied some of the produce to Supper Road for the day, so that was also really special.

Also, our venue was just so special to us.

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

Apparently a few minor things went ‘wrong’ on the day/night but we had absolutely no idea about them at the time.

Our wedding coordinator Bree, was so amazing at what she does and had everything covered on the day.

Sam had some minor mishaps when he was getting ready, arriving later than expected back to the house for photos and with the boys outfits all mismatched. I think that was a bit stressful for them at the time and luckily I had no idea about that on the day haha!

We really wouldn’t change anything about our day at all!

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

I had always had my eye on the Harriette Gordon dress and blouse, and deep down, I knew that it was ‘the one’ that I would end up wearing. It was the first place I went to try on dresses and I just knew I felt like myself in it. It was always what I had pictured myself in on my wedding day. I pretended like that wasn’t the case to keep my mind open to all of the other dresses I had planned to try on but I eventually came back to Harriette Gordon. I wish I could wear it ten times over.

I wore the necklace that my mum, sister and Sam all gave to me for my birthday, they are three of the most important people in my life so that was really special to me.

My bridesmaids gave me a sapphire ring on the morning of, as my ‘something blue’ which I also loved.

Sam wanted to wear a black suit, to keep things timeless when we are looking back on our day.
