Vanessa + Nick by Jerome Cole

I noticed a picnic table with a basket full of food and champagne set up beautifully and as I turned to Nick, he dropped to one knee and asked me to marry him with my beautiful ring in his hands.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
VA: I have my own business as a lash tech based in Melbourne. I love getting away for the weekend and taking our beautiful Bernese Mountain Dog (Stormi) down to the Mornington Peninsula and exploring all the wineries, cafes and beaches.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
VA: We met through a close mutual friend and had met at many social events over time. The more time we spent together the more we grew fond of each other and eventually decided to go on a date and never looked back.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?
VA: Probably the night we finally went on our first date, we both liked each other a lot and when we took the first step into dating we realised we should have done it a lot sooner and spent every spare moment together.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
VA: Yes, Nick organised a beautiful weekend in the Yarra Valley. He surprised me with a beautiful dinner and a room at one of the wineries and then got me up at 4am to get on a hot air balloon which was amazing. As we returned back to the room, Nick suggested we go for a walk to the top of the hill at this winery. I love my walking but this morning was absolutely freezing so I hesitantly agreed and as we got to the top, the sun was coming out and warming up. I noticed a picnic table with a basket full of food and champagne set up beautifully and as I turned to Nick, he dropped to one knee and asked me to marry him with my beautiful ring in his hands. Of Course, I said yes!! with some tears of joy and we spent the next few hours up on this hill alone soaking it all in and celebrating together.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…
VA: I really wanted to create a timeless, elegant and classy mood. Then moving into the night I wanted to have a really fun time and great entertainment.

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?
Yes! My wedding dress got locked in a room when the wind blew the door shut and it was locked from the inside and my father had to get a ladder onto the second story and scale the balcony to break into the room.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?
VA: I had two dresses for the night, my first dress I wanted to be very classic and timeless, I went with a custom dress made by Jane Hill. The second dress I wanted was a more fun vibe which was also a custom made dress done by a friend.
