Catherine + Dylan by Cushla Marie Photography and Boy Called Ben Photography

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship:

We’re a Londoner and a Montreal born Canadian living in Somerset. We met 5 years ago when Dylan was just about to embark on a 6 month trip around Asia culminating in relocation to Australia. The trip to Asia went ahead but the emigration did not and it wasn’t long before he was back in London and we moved in together.

We love the outdoors: hiking, bike rides and camping so we decided to move to the gorgeous Somerset countryside (a week before our wedding!). I (Catherine) am a Primary School teacher and Dylan works for a financial technology company.

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details:

We had planned a big festival themed day planned for Summer 2020 but of course, we had to cancel because of Covid-19. We still really wanted to tie the knot, so instead, we planned an intimate autumn wedding with just 9 guests in the beautiful city of Bath. In the end, the day was perfect. We had everything we wanted and it was so romantic to do it on such a small scale with some of our closest loved ones. We followed up our registry office ceremony with a delicious meal in a cosy private supper club. Even though it rained, Bath was the perfect backdrop for the photos with its gorgeous architecture.

Tell us about your main outfits:

Although it was a small registry office wedding, I really wanted to wear a bridal dress. I opted for a fitted satin dress from Monsoon with lace details and a halter neckline. I did my own hair and makeup and went for a dramatic burgundy lip and nails as it was Autumn. Dylan wore a Navy herringbone 3-piece suit from ASOS.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day:

Probably all the lovely things people shouted to us as we were walking around the city having our photos. Everyone was so joyful at seeing a wedding take place after such a long, difficult year.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together:

It’s a cliché, but at the end of it all, it really is just about the two of you making a vow to be together! We had to adapt and deal with the disappointment about not having the original day we had planned, and it meant we missed out on lots of wedding traditions such as a first dance, a wedding party and a big cake. But on the day, it was so special without all of those things. Of course, if a big white wedding is what you want that’s great, but it’s important to remember why you’re really doing it! A small, personal wedding can be just as memorable as a large one with all the trimmings.
