Angelica + Talley by Sophie Berard

The design + architecture of our venue is extremely raw and beautiful

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

We are living in Los Angeles – enjoying the hills and views of Silverlake with our Bengal cat Moby.

Talley works as a Creative Director in hospitality. Angelica works as a marketing executive for Film/TV marketing.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

We both were living in NYC at the time, and we met at the opening of a new bar, then called The Flower Shop. Angelica’s friend dared her to choose a guy at the bar and talk to them – Angelica chose Talley. They stayed chatting until last call, and the lights turned on.

What styling and visual elements worked best for you? (could be things, the florals, particular hire products or your marquee, etc., something the stylist created or simply just the scenic beauty of your location or the existing design of your venue).

The design + architecture of our venue is extremely raw and beautiful – allowing one to have a sharper focus on the desert and sun-drenched landscape. The purity of the location felt like the perfect setting and foundation for this next chapter together.

Additionally, we’d be remiss to not call out our master floral team. They did such a great job bringing a pop of yellow + abstract/structural wood elements to the space that really allowed warmth to trail through the entire evening.

What did you enjoy most about the planning process, and do you have any tips for couples starting their wedding planning journey?

Once we locked in on our venue (which felt like the biggest unknown variable), we loved being able to dream up the rest of the details together (i.e., florals/rentals/attire/speech cadence/song choices/guest list/seating chart/invites, etc.). Our biggest tip is to try to find ways to really divide and conquer the responsibility of the planning process so that it doesn’t feel like one person is carrying the weight of the entire year-long effort. Splitting and assigning tasks really allowed us to lean into the teamwork needed in a marriage!

Tell us about your vendors. Were there any standout suppliers you would like to make special mention of?

Not sure if this counts as suppliers per se – but our planners and photographer worked together so well to create and capture this dream weekend!

Mentioning again, but our floral team was also spectacular!

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, and is there a story?

As the bride, I never envisioned myself in a traditional wedding ball gown dress – especially in such a remote desert landscape in Mexico. However, as soon as I tried on Danielle Frankel’s Pippa dress, I completely contradicted my own expectations. It felt elegant but still simple enough to be timeless. I felt myself entirely in it and really loved being able to pair this massive bridal dress against the modern architecture of Paradero.

Tell us about your wedding and engagement rings.

My engagement ring is Arielle Ratner. I absolutely love all of her jewellery. I knew that I would never be able to wear a classic shape well (it felt too old-timey to me), so I went to her studio in NYC to see what other design options would be attuned to my personal style and overall finger shape! There were so many pieces I loved, but I knew right away when I found my one!

My wedding band (which I actually wear on my right hand) is a ring I chose from one of my best friend’s mom’s collections, who is a jewellery designer – Sara Weinstock. (I also wore a pair of diamond earrings from her on my wedding day). Sara was always such a part of my dating stories growing up that it felt so special to choose a piece that she made.

What were one or two elements that were most important to you both that you were happy to spend a little more on? (food, photography, florals, the venue, your outfits?).

Definitely premium bar and food. Our lives revolve around what we cook or which new restaurant we’re going to try – so this was a non-negotiable for us!

Welcome Night

Was there a favourite moment (or two) that you will treasure always?

Having 90 people travel from different states + countries to come and support us in a place that is special to us was beyond moving.
One other moment in the wedding that we’ll treasure is that one of my best college friends (who’s a singer/songwriter) wrote and sang us a song about our love story – on our rehearsal dinner. The sunset was beautiful that evening, and this song really made us and our guests emotional.

What does being married mean to you, and are there any special rituals you have that you would like to share?

Being married means finding joy in our day-to-day life together. From morning runs together before work, to cooking together when we get home, to farmer market runs on Sunday mornings, to lounging with our cat on Sundays, to planning our next trip, to picking out a couch for our new home – we embrace the simple joys in our every.
