With a gift for capturing honest, light-filled moments that feel both timeless and deeply personal, Alecia Patrick is a name to know in the world of wedding photography.
Based between Munich and Canada, they bring a beautifully considered, globally inspired perspective to every celebration. Their images are warm, intentional, and entirely unscripted—just like the stories they tell. Today, we’re delighted to share an interview with them so you can get to know the talent behind the lens a little better.
You’re based between Munich and Canada—two very different but equally beautiful locations. How does working between these places influence your work, and what do you see as the advantage of being internationally based?
We’re always seeking to understand people, cultures, and how love is expressed and received. The differences between places captivate us, but so do the universal emotions that connect us all. We love witnessing how different cultures celebrate weddings and gatherings—each unique, yet tied together by the same authentic emotions.
Based in Munich, we have the opportunity to travel across Europe, stretching our wedding season beyond Toronto’s summer months. Canada will always be home, and we adore every chance to return, spending much of the summer in Toronto and Prince Edward County, but with each passing year, Europe becomes a bigger part of our story.
With so many incredible backdrops at your fingertips, do you have a favourite type of location or destination to shoot in? And is there anywhere new or unexpected you would like to travel to for a wedding on your wish list?
We’re excited to explore some new Italian destinations this year; we’re really looking forward to our first visit to Lake Garda. Puglia is on our list, and we can’t wait to experience Sicily and Sardinia. Recently, we had an amazing time in Sintra and Lisbon, Portugal. We love discovering lesser-known European gems and seeing how our talented wedding planners bring magic to each location while honouring the local traditions.
Your website speaks to how important it is for couples to feel confident and comfortable. How do you go about building that trust and helping people feel at ease in front of the camera?
Our approach is centred on energy, vulnerability, and trust. From our first conversation, we want our clients to feel truly known, comfortable, confident, and fully present with their people. The key is knowing they can trust us to capture their day, their people, and themselves beautifully.
We always share full galleries so they can see how we document a wedding from start to finish. The moments we focus on are shaped by what matters most to our clients. Throughout the day, we’re thinking about the moments they will want to look back on, the little things they might miss in the moment, but will love looking back on later. We’re always considering how the wedding story will live on in the album, through the photos and the stories that friends and family will share as they flip through it with them.
You mention that choosing a photographer is about inviting someone into your most intimate memories—a really beautiful and powerful sentiment. How do you approach that responsibility on a wedding day?
For us, it’s all about energy. We’re fully present with our clients when we talk, when we interact, and when we photograph. Their story unfolds in front of our lens, and we’re always thinking about how they will feel when they see each moment again. They feel our energy, and we feed off theirs.
That awareness shapes everything, from how we photograph to how we curate the gallery. We want our clients reliving the emotions of the moment, without distractions. With intentional composition, selection, and editing, we ensure every photo reflects the way the moment truly felt.
You describe your style with the phrase “maximise light, minimise distraction.” How does this shape your shooting and editing approach, and what does that mean to you creatively?
The moment we walk into a room, we notice how the light falls, we tune into the moments unfolding, and we position ourselves to compose a frame that feels as immersive as possible. During editing, we refine that vision, maximising the emotion in the frame and simplifying any distractions to keep the focus where it belongs.
Your editing is clearly very intentional—avoiding heavy-handed presets or unnatural tones. Why is it important to you that people see their true selves and their favourite people reflected in their images?
Photography trends are always evolving, and editing is part of that, but our couples come to us because we take such care with how their skin tones appear in their photos. It’s a responsibility we don’t take lightly; every person should feel truly seen and represented in their best light. We’re already capturing beautiful moments and raw, candid emotions, and our goal is to deliver photos where nothing about the edit distracts from that. Skin tones play a huge role in preserving the authenticity of their moments.
You describe your photographs as family heirlooms. How do you hope your clients experience their images not just now, but decades into the future?
When Pat and I got married 12 years ago, we eloped with our immediate family in Ireland—just 10 of us in total. Afterwards, we spent two weeks travelling around the country, and when we got home, we printed a wedding album for ourselves and each of our parents. To this day, those albums sit proudly on our family’s coffee tables. Our kids know the stories from our time in Ireland by heart. They know that their Nanny got sick on the boat trip to Skellig Michael the day before the wedding, that we all rode horses along the beach, all those little moments that make our family who we are. They see that love reflected in those photos, and that’s exactly what we want for our couples.
When our couples share their wedding album with friends and family, they’re not just looking at photos; they’re sharing their own memories from the day, the unexpected connections, the magical little moments they might not have even witnessed. Those stories, told from different perspectives, weave together into something even richer, a reminder of not just the day itself, but of the love and joy that surrounded it.
There’s a strong emphasis on tangible memories—sharing albums in person, hearing stories from loved ones, creating family history. How do you encourage couples to think about the legacy of their photos beyond just the digital?
From our very first call with a couple, I describe our curation process like this: As I sort through thousands of frames from your wedding day, I’m thinking about the photos you’ll want to print and frame, include in your album, or gift to someone you love. These printed photos become reminders—not just of the love and joy of the day, but of every emotion that made it meaningful.
Sometimes, it’s a quiet moment of support, someone holding your hand through a hard part of the day. Other times, it’s a burst of laughter or an embrace that perfectly captures your connection. These photos show how your people love you, how they showed up for you. And when you share those photographs, whether in an album or as a framed gift, you’re not just preserving memories, you’re giving your loved ones a tangible reminder of how much they mean to you.
You call your photographs “unscripted”—can you explain what that means to you in practice? How do you strike that balance between capturing candid moments and working within the flow of a structured wedding day?
A wedding day is an emotional rollercoaster, and that’s exactly why we love it. We encourage our couples to be fully present with the people they’ve chosen to surround themselves with. When they do, the moments unfold naturally. Their loved ones will instinctively gravitate towards them, and that’s where the magic happens.
Many of our couples’ favourite photos are the ones they never could have anticipated, the fleeting, unscripted moments that make the day uniquely theirs. During our Discovery Call, we guide couples through a little visualisation to help bring forward the moments they’re most looking forward to, whether it’s a quiet exchange before the ceremony or a full-on dance floor celebration. Because there are two of us, we can focus on both the planned and the unexpected. By keeping our cameras up and our perspective open, we capture not just the big, anticipated moments, but the in-between ones, the subtle gestures, the spontaneous laughter, the deeply felt connections that can’t be staged or recreated.
What do you think sets your work apart from other wedding photographers—in terms of both your aesthetic and the overall experience you offer your couples?
Our goal is to show our couples just how deeply their people love them and reflect that love back through their photos. Our driving force is capturing the magic of the day, the emotions of their guests, and the significance of having all their favourite people in one place. Our couples feel that intention in the way we interact, not just with them but with their families and friends. The best compliment we receive is “You felt like one of our friends. No one even realised you weren’t a guest”.
Communication is everything with our approach. It’s vital to set clear expectations, so that our couples always know what to expect, from the photography process to when they’ll receive their photos. That clarity gives them the freedom to be fully present, focused on the moments that matter, never worrying about the logistics of the photos.
Finally, what’s one piece of advice you’d give to couples who may be nervous about being photographed but still want to feel truly themselves on the day?
Presence is everything. Love your people. Be in the moment. Take five minutes here and there just to breathe with your partner. We love it when our couples do this as it not only gives us the opportunity to capture a variety of candid portraits, but it also slows the day down, allowing them to soak in more of it.
An engagement session is another way to feel fully present on their wedding day. When they have already experienced working with us, they know exactly what it feels like and how they’ll look in front of our lens. It’s the best way to step into the wedding experience with comfort and confidence.
