Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
Sydney is a therapist, working mainly with children and adolescents. She loves animals, flowers, children’s books, and coming-of-age movies. Andrew is an aerospace engineer. He loves music, movies, and running. And they both love their silly dog, Juno!
How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
We met in high school and thought each other was really funny. We were friends at first but started dating at the end of freshman year.
When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?
I think we both just kind of assumed we’d always be together, even when we were 14. There was no specific moment; we just knew.
Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
We went on a trip to Richmond for the weekend of our ten-year anniversary. As we were walking our dog in the park, drinking coffee and eating pastries, Andrew proposed. It was perfect!
What was one element you were happy to splurge on?
Definitely the flowers. We wanted it to feel like the gardens in Studio Ghibli movies, Coraline, and Dr. Seuss books. We have loved the florist we chose for years, and her flowers are so beautiful and weird!
Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?
We were careful to plan the wedding day to be as stress-free and calm as possible, and we were pretty lucky that everything went smoothly!
Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?
The dress is a vintage Gunne Sax dress I bought secondhand for $100. I then had it altered to open the back and fix a few tears.
