Angie & Darren by In the Wilds of Someplace

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…

I was travelling around Australia locuming as a radiographer. I had arrived in WA and was working at the hospital one night when I came across Darren, he had come in to have his knee x-rayed.

He realized I was a single female that had moved to Denmark and as this didn’t occur very often, quickly decided to ask me out. I was taken aback and tried to offload him in the emergency department, anywhere I could find before he had the chance to ask me again. Denmark being small he soon managed to get a cousin who worked with me to put a good word in for him. The way I put it, on our second date I had Christmas with him and never left! We had our beautiful daughter Stella and began talk of getting married. We initially had planned to get married in NZ where I am from but having seen where I was wanting to book, Darren suggested we could build a venue at our property in Denmark where my life now was. So began the process of building our own wedding venue to compliment our existing accommodation. Not happy stopping there we also built two more villas at the same time as the wedding venue.

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…

For our day we wanted to reflect the natural beauty that is Parry’s with a touch of opulence. I absolutely adored our open air chapel, made all the more special as Darren built it for me. It was amazing being able to stand in it with our loved ones all witnessing our marriage. The flowers were outstanding and as it was our own venue we were super lucky to have dried flowers installed a week before our wedding. This was due to a hiccup in planning. Originally I had wanted all fresh flowers but the size of the installation grew and we found ourselves having to find a new florist six weeks out from the wedding. Lara Rose and her team were awesome and jumped on board when they heard the vision we had. They spent 3 days doing the install and because it was done early it meant we were able to have the grand reveal to close family several times over during the week building up to our big day!! Our main priority was having a party that all our family and friends would remember forever.

Tell us about your main outfits:

I have always loved Jenny Packham gowns and was super excited to find one that felt like me. Being an older bride I was concerned it would be difficult to find a gown that I would feel comfortable in but still feel like a bride. Jenny Packham and the ladies at White Room Bridal achieved that. When I first saw myself I felt like there was some sort of magic at play! Finding Darren an outfit was one of the most stressful parts of planning the wedding. He is a man who detests shopping! I was lucky to find images on Rodd and Gunn’s Instagram and contacted the local Perth store to put the outfits aside in his size the day we were going to Perth. This made it so much easier to get my groom into the change room and out of the change room in under half an hour!

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?

Our wedding had its own heartbeat, it was a huge celebration of the life Darren and I have created along with our daughter, Stella. Darren shed blood, sweat and tears building our venue and open air chapel. His focus, strength and determination paid off and not only did our family and friends celebrate an event that was testament to all his hard work, it can now also be something that can be enjoyed by other brides and grooms wanting to get married on the edge of Australia!

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?

If you can make it a celebration over a few days do so, the actual wedding day passes so quickly and being able to stay onsite with loved ones who have travelled long distances meant we were able to share memorable time with everyone!
