Ash + Wes by Muse Photography

Wes & I met at work in 2018 at Red Bull. Wes was the cool guy at work that I could not help but be drawn to, he seemed like he could be a bit of trouble and I couldn’t help myself.

The first time we hung out was after a work function & we ended up chatting until 4 am at the establishment. I remember thinking wow we get along. I denied my crush & continued to refer to Wes as my ‘work friend’ until I had to come clean, and he was upgraded to Boyfriend.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

Wes & I are very similar people we love to travel and enjoy nice restaurants. Wes is very spontaneous and is so thoughtful that he is always surprising me and thinking outside the box for dates – Life with him is genuinely like a dream come true. I did not think I would find someone so similar to myself.

We have a little French Bulldog Diego who is an absolute Prince.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

Ash – Valentine’s Day 2021 Wes surprised me and took me out and we had some honest future chats and it just flowed so naturally. Wes always went the extra mile with everything so to hear him be so serious about our future I knew this was the real deal.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

Ash – Poor Wes tried to propose three times but his plans kept getting interrupted by covid/natural disasters. We went to the Hunter Valley in November 2021 and we went to dinner at EXP and enjoyed a 7-course degustation. I noticed Wes was somewhat anticipating something and at the final course desert there beneath the smoking dry ice was an engagement ring. Wes popped down on one knee and proposed with the whole restaurant watching.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

Ash – I wanted an intimate Wedding with just the people that are the most important to us with an emphasis on Family. Family is important to us and unfortunately, my Nan who I was incredibly close to was very unwell with Cancer, after getting engaged I jumped right on it & it kept my Nan going and looking forward to the day. It was incredibly important to me that I could chat with every single person at the wedding and I can confirm I did!

The brief was Classic, White & Romantic.

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

OMG, the weather! It was an emotional rollercoaster. Unfortunately, the ceremony got rained out including all the furniture so last minute our ceremony was pushed back 30 mins and moved into the reception room. At the time it was so up and down but I was too wrapped up in the whole day to get upset. My gorgeous styling Queen Danielle managed it so well and I was just rolling with it.
