Becca + Caleb by Sarah Jordan Photography

I wanted our wedding to be fun, playful, and give all the spring vibes. Spring is my favourite season because the world comes back to life and all the flowers are just unbelievable at this time. The venue was very white. White exterior, white walls etc… so I knew adding some colour to the place would make a big impact.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

Hello!  I’m Becca Mitchell!  I don’t know if I’ll ever get used to my new last name!  I’m a Special Education teacher here in Georgia and Caleb is a physician recruiter.  I also have a small floral and design company with one of my friends called b.a. floral company.  I love the design and being able to add organic elements such as flowers.  Caleb played baseball throughout college and loves all things sports.  Caleb and I love to hike and spend time outside.  We try to find any chance we get to go up to the mountains.

Hey, I’m Caleb! The most important thing to me is my faith, and it’s something that drew me to Becca. We make one good person, and she truly completes me. I love doing any and everything outside, especially when it’s an activity we can share, like camping or hiking. I tried getting her into my absolute favourite thing to do, golf, and let’s just say that’s still a work in progress haha.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

Caleb and I are high school sweethearts.  We met the summer going into eighth grade and have been inseparable ever since.  When I first met him I just thought he was some dumb boy but according to Caleb he was smitten and was going to figure out a way to win me over.  I guess he finally did haha!

One of my best friends at the time was dating a girl down the street who happened to be best friends with Becca (yes, they’re still together too). I thought my buddy just really wanted to hang out, but I’d wake up every summer morning and he was at her house. Anyway, he asked me to go with him one day, and as I walked up, I saw this girl in a yellow t-shirt with an owl on it, and it’s been a core memory of mine ever since. I worked all day, tirelessly, to get her to even look in my direction. I got her to crack a smile at one of my stupid jokes at the end of the day, and I knew I had her. We joke that I tricked her because the next day, we played man-hunt (essentially hide n seek) inside, and as we both hid in her friend’s bathroom, I noticed an empty toilet paper roll and I decided to take it upon myself to replace it. She mistakenly thought that was a sign that I’d be good at chores LOL.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

Our anniversary is on January 1 so we have always loved getting to kiss on New Year’s Eve and then welcome in the new year as well as our anniversary. Caleb knew I did not want a very public proposal but I still wanted my loved ones around me. He had the grand idea for us to host a New Year’s Eve party at my apartment a couple of years ago. It was the perfect distraction. I was so focused on being a good host and so happy to be around all of my friends that I completely missed all the signs that a proposal was about to happen. Every year he writes me a letter for our anniversary. Right before midnight, he snuck me away to read me the letter. While he was doing this our amazing friends quickly set up the most romantic and beautiful proposal set up. They scattered candles all over my living room and hid away with cameras to capture the moment. The clock was about to hit midnight so they start yelling “10, 9, 8, 7…” so Caleb and I run out to make sure we don’t miss the countdown. I was completely in shock when I saw they had transformed my living room into this perfect proposal site. Then Caleb got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was the most perfect proposal I could have ever imagined.

Caleb – I’m not gonna lie, she nailed this! I was freaking out inside. One funny anecdote that she forgot was that all of our friends were huddled around the kitchen counter going over what our New Year’s resolutions would be and as Becca came out of her room, we asked her what hers was and she said, “To get engaged!” Needless to say, all of us about dropped our glasses haha.

Another portion of me throwing her off was that I took her on a trip to see Christmas lights in Chattanooga, and she totally thought I was going to propose. When I didn’t, it definitely bought me some time. I feel guilty to have messed with her emotions like that, but it had to be done!
