Becka — I’m an art director and interior designer and have lived in London for 15 years. Happiest when exploring new countries with Kadea, finding hidden gems with delicious food and wine. Our miniature schnauzer Milo is the centre of attention.
Kadea — I’m originally from Cheshire but lived in Manchester for 10 years. Becka and I did four years long distance, before finally living together. I’m a secondary school physical education teacher but also own a furniture reclamation/design company called J-UNK. I’m learning pottery and have taught yoga for five years.
Becka — We had lots of mutual friends but our paths hadn’t crossed. It was September 2014 and I was on holiday in Ibiza with a mutual best friend. Kadea flew over to surprise him. I remember her coming into the hotel and thinking how beautiful she was. I’d never been in a relationship with a woman so didn’t read too much into it. Fast forward a few hours (and a few tequilas), and we shared our first kiss on the dancefloor.
She came down to London a few times after that and we quickly became inseparable. I was a little scared at this venture into a same-sex relationship but Kadea is my best friend and made me feel safe and secure. I actually planned wedding proposals three times, but thanks to Covid and other issues, I finally proposed at a country retreat in Norfolk. My parents, who live locally, decorated the cabins with fairy lights, cosy throws and candles.
We went for a walk and ended up at the cabin at dusk overlooking the lake. As she opened the door, she gasped. It was like a magical winter wonderland inside. I poured us mulled wine, we sat by the fire and listened to our favourite songs. When ‘our song’ Des’ree’s ‘Kissing You’ came on (our first dance), Kadea suggested we dance. I dropped to one knee, and we both burst out laughing, then cried and finally she said yes.
Kadea — Becka’s proposal couldn’t have been more perfect but I also wanted to propose to her. So when we were in Mallorca, we woke up early and climbed a hill, and while the sun rose, I toldBecka I had a present for her, handed over dandelion seeds and said let’s both make a wish.
I got down on one knee and said, ‘Seven years ago, we made a wish we’d be together forever. Today, I want to make that wish finally come true. I love you, Becka. Will you marry me?’ We then had a day of beach hopping and champagne and a couple’s massage on the roof terrace. We didn’t want anything fussy or too colourful for our wedding. We love simple, chic and rustic looks. Our venue was a 19th-century finca at the foot of the Sierra de Tramontana mountains, surrounded by almond, carob and olive trees.
