Benjamin + Luise

He took me to a hill near a forest in Halle and sang me a song I love (Run Away by Ben Platt) and changed the lyrics a bit to fit our love story, although I didn’t realise this at the time because I was too busy crying.

Luise —— We’re both music students. Benjamin plays the cello, piano, drums and guitar; I play the clarinet and the piano. Benjamin is also studying German to become a high school teacher. We’re both really into fashion and photography so we’re a good team when it comes to social media or my modelling career.

We travel a lot: last year we lived in Milan and Athens for several months (I had modelling agencies there), and travelled to the States, France, South Korea, Spain, Thailand, Italy and Greece.

I never intended to get married young (at 23), but it just happened and we’re both extremely glad we have each other. Later this year, we’re having a big church wedding as we’re both Christians. In Germany, if you want a church wedding, you have to get married twice because the religious ceremony doesn’t count legally.

We met in 2017 when we had classes together nearly every day. You get to know each other quickly in improv groups and rock band seminars. Since then we’ve been pretty much inseparable. We’d talked about our future together so we were definitely on the same page before Benjamin proposed. He took me to a hill near a forest in Halle and sang me a song I love (Run Away by Ben Platt) and changed the lyrics a bit to fit our love story, although I didn’t realise this at the time because I was too busy crying. He’d also talked to my parents before proposing. For us, the church wedding will mean more to us and was originally to happen a few weeks after our civil ceremony, then because of Covid, it was postponed. But our civil wedding was really intimate, which we both loved.

For me, one of the most special things about our wedding was that my husband took my name (Jäsche), a decision he made by himself. I also loved seeing my family so happy, and that my grandparents went to great trouble to come to Berlin for the day. Benni says his highlight was the moment we came out of the courthouse and our family greeted us with wedding wands with bells. The whole day we played fun music, a mix of vintage and jazz songs. After lunch and cake, we took off to Croatia with my sister, best friend, Benni’s sister, and their partners. We drove there in a small bus and stayed in a beautiful house with a pool and a garden for a week.

Literally the day before the wedding, my best friend Zoe and I drove to the nearest mall with about an hour to find me an outfit. We went to Zara, saw the pink suit on the mannequin and instantly knew that was the one. I love it so much and I was so excited to surprise everyone with it. When I appeared, everyone laughed because pink is a colour I was obsessed with as a kid. Actually, that moment was one of the highlights.
