We had the pleasure of sitting down with the wonderfully talented Bridget Daulby, an accomplished illustrator who has seamlessly ventured into the world of stationery design—with breathtaking results. Her unique artistic style, previously seen in her stunning illustrations, now shines through in her intricately crafted stationery, bringing a fresh, sophisticated elegance to paper goods. Whether through her enchanting illustrations or her beautifully designed cards and invitations, Bridget’s work elevates everyday stationery into something truly remarkable.

Can you tell us about your background and how you became an illustrator specialising in hand-painted wedding invitations?

My boyfriend will laugh, but, every time someone asks what I do for a living I tend to say that I feel like one of those street salesmen with giant trench coats filled with different bits and bobs who say ‘whatcha need, I got it..’ because my skill set has become so broad over the years – from Art Director to Stylist to Graphic Designer to Retoucher and then back to Art director again..

The constant throughout all of this though was illustration, and over the past few years it has become my main focus, especially refining my different styles and mediums. And part of this refinement included venturing into occasion illustration. I have done work for friends’ events and weddings over the years, but never promoted this type of work, although I love it. So here we are today!

What do you feel sets your work apart from other wedding stationery designers?

I like to have fun with my work! Customising pieces that highlight the client’s personality is important to me.

I approach my work with the same strategy as if I were still an Art Director. What is their overall vision? How can I help with this visual direction and maintain consistency throughout all aspects of an event? For example, aligning the colour palette to match the florals, the fonts with the illustration style, etc.

When it comes to weddings, what do you enjoy creating the most, and why?

Save the dates or invites are my favourites – setting the tone of the event for guests.

Are there any trends you’re noticing in wedding stationery or illustration that you’re excited about?

A playful, whimsical style seems to be popular, and I hope it continues!

What has been your favourite wedding or event project you’ve worked on so far, and what made it special?

My good friend was getting married, and she asked me to illustrate everything from the save-the-dates to the place cards. Not only was I excited about the wedding, but illustrating pieces for them to cherish in years to come felt like such a special honour. She also trusted me to do my thing (style-wise), which put the icing on the cake.

How do you collaborate with couples to bring their unique vision to life through your illustrations?

It normally starts off with a call or Zoom to get a sense of the overall look and feel that they have in mind for their wedding. Then, we spend a bit of time getting to know the couple. I always love hearing people’s stories, and it helps me give more meaning behind each piece.

In this initial consultation, I will get a list of what stationary they may be after and any particular style/colours/themes they have in mind. I will then mock up a draft design, and we develop from there. Chatting through the process so we can get to the best result <3
