Britt + Ed by The Beginning Studio

We love hip hop and R&B music so having a fun playlist was key. We walked down the aisle to 50 Cent when we got married and we cut the cake to Eminem which went viral on TikTok! It was so important to not do everything traditional and ensured it reflected our personality.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
I work at PUMA in brand marketing and love what I do. Ed runs his own business – Professional Synthetic Grass Installations in NSW, Australia with Hitech Synthetic laying synthetic grass all over NSW.

We are both pretty relaxed, love sport and being outdoors! I play soccer and compete in track and and field and Ed plays golf and used to play AFL. I love animals and am obsessed with Hippos – hence the inclusion of hippos throughout our wedding and engagement. I just think they are beautiful and have been obsessed since I was a kid. We also have a British bulldog called Reggie and a bunny called Bugzie but we call him Buggy!

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
We met in late 2016 or early 2017 I think – online on bumble! I wasn’t sure it was anything at the start but we had our first date and got along like a house on fire. Our first date was taking Reggie my bulldog to the dog beach – Reggie got a little tired in the water and started to slobber a bit – classic bulldog. Ed wiped Reggie’s slobber with his bare hands – that was a highlight for me! The first thing I noticed about Ed was his blue eyes. Since then, we kept dating and talking all day everyday – it was easy with Ed and he was so laid back and easy going!

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?
I think early on – we spoke about it after 6 months but didn’t think much of it. We got along so well, never argued and Ed treated me like a queen – something I wasn’t used to! He is so selfless and always puts me first.
We just gel – we are so different but so alike at the same time – life was easy and I think that’s when I realised. We couldn’t imagine our lives without each other and were always talking about our future which was exciting for us both!

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
By a hippo! Haha! We went to Dubbo zoo for Ed’s birthday weekend and I had also quit one of my roles and accepted my job at PUMA so it was a bit of a celebration weekend! Ed booked for me to feed the hippo as a celebration for the next chapter! We got so lucky that it was only us in the encounter! I got to feed a hippo, pat one and spend so much time with the hippos – it was amazing. Ed asked the zoo keeper to take a photo of us with the hippo (great idea I thought) and as we were posing with the hippo who had her mouth wide open, Ed got down on one knee and asked the question with the hippo right next to us! The photo is unreal.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…
We wanted a farm vibe/rustic but modern! We loved the mountain at Bimbadgen which was a huge selling point for us! For our reception, we wanted it to be simple but modern! Full of white candles, white roses, babies breath and fairy lights – we wanted a dreamy magical set up. We always wanted a white, black theme. Our bridesmaids wore black dresses and the groomsmen wore a black MJ Bale tux and our ceremony was filled with white flowers! It was gorgeous!
We wanted our wedding to represent us! As hippos have been part of our engagement and my obsession, we had a bride and groom hippo cake topper with a custom bulldog one on the cake too! We also had a lifesize cutout of a hippo and our pets which was super special. We love hip hop and R&B music so having a fun playlist was key. We walked down the aisle to 50 Cent when we got married and we cut the cake to Eminem which went viral on TikTok! It was so important to not do everything traditional and ensured it reflected our personality.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?
DJ! – we wanted it to be a VIBE and ensure we had the best there to create the ultimate party and they did! Then our accommodation (well the bride/bridesmaids) – we had amazing accommodation at the long house. Unfortunately, Ed’s job was to book a place for the boys and he forgot so they had an average AirB&B that had spiders and they had to change accommodation to get ready at one of the guests in the morning!

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?
My MOH forgot her bouquet – although I laughed when she told me as we arrived at the ceremony – it was so funny. Jules, our celebrant, even called her out on it in the ceremony haha! We had wind and rain hit our ceremony which I thought I would be stressed about – my veil got wrapped around the flower arbour and fell out and my hair was a bird’s nest and I got drenched! As much as I thought it would be stressful and how I was laughing at that time thinking about our luck – we got amazing photos! But it made it memorable and we had so much fun in the rain. I love the photos and memories!

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?
Ed always wanted a black tux with black buttons! He tried on one suit and that was that.
I knew I didn’t want a tight dress or lace! I always wanted a ball gown type dress and a split. I wear a split everyday in my outfits when I go out so that was a given! I found it stunning and classy but still fun and it made me feel gorgeous! I actually changed my dress a few months out. I had another one similar from KWH but I didn’t love the top part of it – the team changed it a few months out for me based on a sketch and an image I saw. I tried it on 12 weeks out and loved it – so glad I decided to change and trusted my gut. I ended up adding the wrap around the shoulders only 4 weeks out from the wedding. I am a very impulsive person! But I adored the gown – it was everything I dreamed of and more, it was so me and I am still obsessed with it!
