Carissa + Greg by Liv Hettinga Photography

I was Greg’s first and last internet date, man was he lucky HA!! He scared me a bit, he almost killed me in the first 5 mins.. that’s a good story to tell the kids.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
Showing and breeding livestock, travelling – we make a lot of days that are perfect. We really love traveling… our favourite is waking up in a new city to find the perfect coffee place. We really like going to the local greenhouses, we spend a lot of money there! Well, we’d say we are pretty active people who work really hard… often you can find us working on a project.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
Carissa: We met online (I’m not a big fan of that). I was Greg’s first and last internet date, man was he lucky HA!! He scared me a bit, he almost killed me in the first 5 mins.. that’s a good story to tell the kids. He was so sarcastic, I couldn’t tell if he was flirting or if he was just a dick. I had no choice but to stick it out because we were in Niagra Falls, glad things worked out.

Greg: First met online. My first impression was on our first date to Niagara falls. I picked her up. She was beautiful. Almost ran through a stop sign and got into an accident within the first 5 minutes.

When did you first realize that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

Carissa: Honestly, I can’t pin point it. I knew he was different when all he wanted to do is help me work on my house renos. Within 5 months of dating, I knew he was my partner for life when I was stressed out over some farm stuff and was about to quit. He wouldn’t let me. <3

Greg: I fell in love with her when I realized how much passion she had. She was discussing her cows and went on a rant. Super cute.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
Yes, kinda. Greg and I are best friends and we were chatting about it a lot. I had a hunch about a week before and told some of my co-workers that I’ll likely be engaged next Friday which was Oct 9th. Greg’s favourite number is 9 and one of my favourite weekends is Thanksgiving weekend. After work, he took me to my grandparents’ house, my sister called to tell me my cows were out and they needed help bringing them in. So of course I was suspicious… my cows are like dogs they come when you call them. We took a walk to through the field and Greg got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…
Modern, Classic, Minimal… We decided to elope because we were tired of everyone else’s opinions, judgement and stress.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?
Travel across the country to get married in the mountains.
