Real Wedding: Julie & Thom – Photography by Bayly and Moore

I joke-wooed Julie while co-hosting a show on the TV channel U Live. My progress became a regular segment on the show, which stretched out for months because I have no game.

We decided to get married over a Justin Bieber calendar (I’d asked for a Justin Timberlake calendar for Christmas, and she ordered the wrong one. Not bitter about it or anything). We needed a new visa for the US, and looked to the calendar to see when we needed it by.

Real Wedding: Carly & Tim – Photography by Paul Tatterson

We are both born and bred in Christchurch but for last three years have lived in Melbourne with our Pugalier dog, Diggs. We’re high school sweethearts, with our relationship now a decade long, although we both spent a good amount of time overseas independently when we were younger. This allowed us to experience new things as individuals, all the while still growing up together. It was this that cemented our relationship, knowing that when it comes down to it, we just want to be together.

Real Wedding: Anna & Byron – Photography by Tim Williams

We were married at Palm Beach hours before a great week-long storm hit Sydney. You could feel the static in the air. Byron was raised in the Northern Beaches of Sydney, and we spent our early years of courtship in those waters and on those dunes. We had originally hoped for a ceremony at Barrenjoey Lighthouse, but council restrictions disallowed access. The location reflected the rugged Australian coastline and early colonial history.

Real Wedding: Justine & Angus – Photography by Fiona Anderson

We were after a castle, and Larnach Castle is the only castle in New Zealand. Once we found the church down the road we knew we had the right place for our special day. The beautiful old colonial church in Pukehiki is like something out of a picture book, and Larnach Castle in all its grand splendour is like a magical kingdom.

We were adamant about creating the whole day ourselves, which is no mean feat, especially trying to coordinate it all from another country (we live in Sydney). We designed everything from our own wedding cards to Angus’ suit jacket and my evening ball gown.
