We always wanted to have a big celebration after the elopement with everyone that we love, and we wanted the vibe to be classy and elegant.
Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
C.B – We live and work In Brisbane however we are originally from Perth which is why we got married there. Sarah works as an Avionics Technician in the Royal Australian Air Force and I work as an Anaesthetic Technician. We love our pets just like they are our children and love spending time outdoors. We enjoy crafty activities and are willing to give everything a go!
How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
C.B – We met through mutual friends and instantly hit it off as friends. We laughed all night and stayed in contact over the next couple of years however never thought we would end up soul mates.
In 2019 we reconnected, we spent the next couple of weeks hanging out and falling in love. However, we lived in different states which meant we had to commit to a long-distance relationship. Figured if it worked out we could get through anything. We did 12 months long distance through covid then finally moved to Brisbane in 2020 to spend forever together.
When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?
C.B – Within the first few weeks of our relationship we danced, ate, travelled and had the most amazing time falling in love. We often say ‘When you know, you know’.
Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
C.B – We had looked at rings occasionally because if Sarah ever did propose, I knew I wanted something unique. I was set on having a sapphire. However, after trying on a diamond and falling in love with it, Sarah secretly went and bought it the next day. On our next holiday to Perth, we went on a walk along the river that we regularly used to walk along when I lived in Perth and Sarah stopped us to take some cute photos and videos. After I set up the camera, I turned around and she was on one knee proposing. It was magical.
Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…
S.B – We never wanted a big wedding and always wanted to make sure it was intimate and just about us. So when we found The Old Tower House’s elopements, we immediately booked it in. We always wanted to have a big celebration after the elopement with everyone that we love, and we wanted the vibe to be classy and elegant. We went with a black and gold theme and asked all our guests to wear their best black outfit. The photos at the rooftop bar with everyone in black looked amazing.
What was one element you were happy to splurge on?
C.B – The dress! I had fallen in love with the ‘Clarity’ dress by Rachel Rose years ago. I had no idea of the price but I knew it was the one no matter what the cost was.
Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?
C.B – During the elopement and when we were saying our vows, Sarah had a little bit of snot running from her nose. Forgetting that everyone was watching us, I wiped it for her the moment I saw it and everyone lost it laughing. Tt really felt like it was just the two of us in the room. Later on, when the celebrant was speaking, I wasn’t listening well. When Sarah went in for the kiss, I threw my hands up and said ‘it’s not time’. The whole room laughed once again and eventually we kissed.
