Daya + Billy by Sofia Flinn

I had no ring and she was in her pyjamas watching tv alone. I rummaged through the house to find something to resemble a ring and found a packet of burger ring chips. I walked to the lounge room, dropped to one knee and asked her to marry me.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

D.R — Billy and I are both outdoorsy people who need to be in nature in order to be happy.
Soon after our wedding in the Otways we actually moved to Tassie to create more opportunities
for ourselves to be and work in the outdoors. I’m a florist who loves to forage and collect things
from nature and Billy works in civil construction which allows him to see many parts of this
beautiful State. We do our best to get outside as often as possible.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

D.R We actually met through our mutual friends who were dating at the time. I guess we hit it
off immediately because we’ve been together ever since. I think initially we were drawn to
each other because of our similar sense of humour and as we spent more time together we
realised so much on common.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your
life with?

B.R – For me it was very soon after meeting Daya, she was so fun and carefree
and made me feel like I was home every time we were together. D.R haha Billy
definitely fell in love first but it didn’t take me too long to catch up. I think we both
fought it to begin with but soon realised it was in vain.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

Daya always said she didn’t need aring to feel commitment from me but one night at home everything felt so perfect and I knew I wanted to propose: I had no ring and she was in her pyjamas watching tv alone. I rummaged through the house to find something to resemble a ring and found a packet of burger ring chips. I walked to the lounge room, dropped to one knee and asked her to marry me. We laughed about it but once she realised I was serious, she said yes. D.R I still have that exact burger ring!

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…
D.R – we planned our wedding after meeting our photographer Sofia from Enchanted
Weddings. I was familiar with her work and when I met her in person she mentioned she
had one spot left for the year. I went home and told Bill we had to book her for our
wedding. So we have just over a month to pull together something that would represent
us as a couple. We knew we wanted it to be as relaxed and intimate as possible, out
doors and have only our nearest and dearest including our three children.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

D.R we had to have Sofia’s
photography skills, nice flowers and a beautiful dress.

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it
was stressful at the time)? The wedding itself was very stress free but we did think we
lost Bill before the ceremony as he was a little late. I drove myself to the destination
from out Airbnb so I was there before him. We also had our reception at Forrest Brewery who didn’t taken bookings so when we showed up they also had a Christmas
party on. The more the merrier!

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?
D.R I always knew that if I were to get married I would want a Lover Dress. I have followed
their journey for what seems like my entire adult life and I’m so glad I chose to wear a dress by
them. It was super comfortable and unique. Billy was very low fuss and opted for me to buy his
outfit.
