Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship:
We met briefly through a mutual friend when Ed was visiting Wellington one weekend. We didn’t speak or meet again until several years later…on day 1 of the university semester when we found each other in the foyer – it was a Chick Flick moment! Although our concentration on our classes wasn’t the best that semester, the romance bloomed and we’ve been inseparable ever since.
On our days off you can find us drinking bottom-less cups of filter coffee at the local cafes of Wellington & spending time with our families. We are both major extroverts. We love fine dining, fashion, and travelling.
We are both Youth Pastors, based in Wellington City. It is undeniable that our shared faith plays a massive role in our relationship – Not only in a shared occupation, but in our priorities & passions. We both find great joy in our jobs & we absolutely love that we get to do it together.
Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details:
We wanted our special day to just feel like ‘us’. We are absolute city-slickers so it felt only right to get married in the heart of Wellington City. I had walked past a beautiful old building under construction one day & one peek through the window…The white walls, the big black doors, the high ceilings, the beautiful arches, the redwood floors…it was perfect! I called the construction company and found out that it was set to finish around the time we wanted to get married. I booked it immediately!
We went quite untraditional on the details – Like our flowers that were covered in spray paint! We had the trendiest, black and white, beautiful flowers for our aisle & my bouquet! The flowers were fake – I still have my bouquet on my bedside today, it’s a special piece of our wedding that I’ll treasure!
We definitely aimed for elegance but mainly we wanted the day to just feel like an epic celebration. There were A LOT of joyful tears, a lot of laughs & fun moments. Our exit song was even Yummy by Justin Bieber which provided a lot of laughs. We really wanted our guests to feel celebrated too – we wrote them all hand written notes as the place-cards, took real care in our seating plan, fed them in abundance & made sure we had a spot on the dance floor for them!
What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day:
A favourite moment of the day was when I walked down the aisle. It is a moment that will be forever in my memory.. The song was “O” By Coldplay – This was performed live by our friends. Ed chose the song – it was the only thing in the whole planning process he had strong thoughts on which made it all the more special. I will never forget the moment I turned the corner and saw Ed waiting for me & our tear-filled eyes locked with one another.
Another favourite moment of the day was the moments we took to acknowledge our faith: a song of worship and a moment of prayer in our ceremony. These moments were so special to us because we couldn’t separate our relationship from the faith that we share – it was important for us to dedicate our relationship to God & also to show our loved ones, our faith which is an expression of us.
Tell us about your main outfits:
We were all about the shoes. My shoes were my dream shoes – Jimmy Choo mules. I found my dress at a Sample Sale for a local bridal store – the brand is Daisy Brides, I got the back changed and had it altered to fit, and got it at a great price! My jewellery was mainly family heirlooms that I was kindly allowed to wear – my Earrings were from Zoe & Morgan. Ed’s dream was to wear Saint Laurent Chelsea boots on his wedding day, so we had to make that happen! He bought his suit from Barkers. Ed custom designed my ring at Village Goldsmith – It was exactly what I wanted (He nailed it, despite me having never hinted!)
Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together:
Make time for romance, holidays, fun & memories. Create traditions. Don’t let busyness be an excuse but prioritise your relationship in every season. Write a card, send a nice text when you’re apart, cook them dinner, plan a spontaneous date – it’s the little things!
