Ella + Brett by Amy Maree Photography

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

Brett – I’m a carpenter by trade and now working as a production manager, I love to build and creative things. Ella says I can’t keep still. I love the outdoors, camping and being by the beach.

Ella – I’m a hairdresser by trade and full time mum, I absolutely love being a mum to our little girl Raya. My family means the world to me, I love adventuring with Brett and Raya especially watching the sunset over the ocean.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

Ella – Brett and I met back when we were in our first year of high school. I was waiting for class and Brett walked past with a friend asking who I was… not knowing I already had a little crush on him from then on we hit it off spending our high school years together.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

Ella – After Brett and I both left school to go on to our apprenticeships we went our separate ways. 5 years later our paths crossed again and reunited. We travelled around Australia for 2 years. Before we went on that trip together I knew I wanted to be with Brett forever, whilst we were traveling we were inseparable, I just knew we would be forever. Brett – When I met Ella at 13 I knew I was going to spend the rest of my life with her.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

Brett – I proposed to Ella on christmas day at sunset on the beach with her family there. Her ring was made from her Nanna’s engagement ring which had been passed down to Ella which made me want her Nanna there. We were travelling around Australia at the time and decided to come home for christmas. I thought this would be a perfect time and Ella would never suspect it.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

We always planned on getting married on my parents property. Ever since I was a little girl I would always say it was where I wanted to get married. Being at home gave us the perfect relaxed wedding. I love the boho / rustic decor and thought it would suit perfectly. we chose natural/earthy colours and it came together perfectly (even the arbor my dad built himself).

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

The main thing we were happy to splurge on was food/alcohol. We believe that makes the best wedding. Also photography, you keep your photos forever and you want to be 100% happy with them. We had family photos when our daughter Raya was born with @amymaree_photography we love her and we love her style. The first thing we knew was we wanted her to capture our day no matter what!

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

To be honest our day was super stress free. nothing went wrong. The week before was quite stressful being on my parents property there were lots of last minute / finishing touches. The day of the wedding the stylist set everything up and did an amazing job. The day flowed so perfectly, exactly how we hoped our special day would be.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

Ella- When Brett and I got engaged in 2018 we had no plan for a wedding yet but of course I was scrolling instagram looking for dress ideas. I saved the first dress I fell in love with ‘ Madi Lane Bridal – India gown’ funnily enough when I went dress shopping at the start of 2021 it was still my favourite dress, I knew it was the one!
