Ellie + Campbell by True North Photography

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

EL: I work as a property leasing paralegal and Campbell works as a surveyor. In our spare time we both love the outdoors and try to get away on weekend camping trips when we can. We live quite an active lifestyle and love spending time at the gym together as well as climbing mountains or going hiking.  We have our little fur baby Balter, our cat (yes named after the beer). We don’t have any kids yet however we plan to have many in the future!

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

EL: We met back in April 2014 at a Lawfirm, when we were both 17 years old. Campbell was working as a casual in the mailroom in-between Uni and I had just started my first full time job there. We instantly hit it off with a lot of cheeky back and forth banter, you could say it was a bit of love at first sight. Even though we both clearly had a crush on each other, neither of us made a move so we remained close friends for the next four years. Eventually in 2018, we finally made the move past friendship and decided to go on a date together. Our first date was a climb up Mount Beerwah and we had such a great time – our second date ended up being the very next day! We soon both realised we had a mutual love for adventure, the great outdoors, food, fitness and a good time. We were the missing pieces in each others lives we didn’t know we needed.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

EH: I think the both of us would say we kind of knew from our very first date. However, I of course tried to not get too ahead of myself.

CH: I knew straight after our very first date that Ellie was the person I was going to spend the rest of my life with. When my mum and sister asked how the date went I responded with ‘yeah, I think I will probably end up marrying her one day’. There was never a doubt about it in my mind.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
EH: Campbell proposed while we were backpacking through Thailand in March 2020 (yep right before covid!). He is a bit of a romantic – he organised for a beautiful 3 course Thai dinner to be set up on our own private beach at sunset on the island of Kho Pha-Ngan. It was a complete surprise – still don’t know how he kept the secret for so long! We spent the next few weeks in our own little love bubble until we got the call to return home to Australia due to COVID – we actually got on one of the last flights back into Australia before the world locked down. Upon our return home, we  spent two weeks in quarantine together and loved every minute of it!

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

EH: We both really wanted quite a relaxed and fun vibe for the day so we went for a bit of a minimal boho style. Our main priority was for everyone to feel relaxed and just have a good time – we definitely aren’t traditional or formal people so we wanted our day to really reflect us as a couple. Our energy definitely reflected on all the guests, everyone couldn’t stop telling us how much fun they had!

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

EH: I did try really hard to keep everything very tightly within our budget… however when it came to photography and videography, we both agreed that these were two important elements which we were happy to splurge a little on. Obviously, this decision paid off as both our photographer and videographers were amazing!

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

EH: Choosing a wedding dress for me was really hard, particularly because I have never liked lace! I always knew I wanted a very non-traditional but still elegant wedding dress which was why I went for a Made with Love Bridal gown. I tried on so many different styles however I couldn’t go past the elegance and simplicity of the Jordan gown. Campbell originally wanted an olive green suit, a linen or cream coloured suit was never on the cards. While out shopping one day Campbell tried a linen suit on just for fun – turns out the colour suited him perfectly!

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

EH: We were very lucky in that we didn’t really have too many hiccups throughout our day, or at least any we got to see! Something which we all laugh about now was my dad’s father of the bride speech (sorry dad!). He had prepared an amazing speech and everyone at the wedding was loving it, however with a mixture of nerves and a few two many drinks, dad lost his spot during the speech and couldn’t remember where he was up to. He continued to repeat the speech while the whole  wedding cheered him on until he finally found where he was up to. It was definitely stressful for him at the time but now we smile and laugh about it!
