We never wanted a traditional wedding, we knew we were committed to each other for the long haul, wedding or not. We simply wanted an epic party where friends from all over the world could get together, eat incredible food, drink delicious wine (and cocktails!) and dance the night away! That, and why not make a three-day party of it if people are flying in from all over the world!
Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
Emilie – I originally hail from Australia, but have been in the UK for over ten years now! As an Aussie living in the UK who couldn’t love travelling and food when so many amazing countries and cultures are at your doorstep? I work for a brand, marketing and communications agency, Aspectus, running the financial services and ESG team.
Jamie – I’m a born and bred Scot. An outdoor lover from mountain biking to hiking, the more
challenging / extreme the better! I work as a property developer for Stonebond.
How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
We met on the Earls Court tube station platform in London, in May 2014, we were both en route to
a property rugby match (surveyors sevens) in Richmond. Jamie was extremely hungover after a big night out with mates and Emilie, still newish to London was jumping at any opportunity for a British experience so when a friend and her boyfriend (who worked for the same company as Jamie) invited her along she embraced it.
Our first impressions:
Jamie: “I’m not sure, I was too busy trying not to be sick given my
hangover!”
Emilie: “This guy seems friendly, funny and easy to chat to. I don’t know many other people
here so why not hang out with him a bit”
When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?
Emilie – It was a build-up of moments in time for me. We’d been together almost six years by the time Jamie proposed, we’d gone through a lot together and no matter what was thrown our way, Jamie was an absolute rock through it all. Combined with his absolute love of life, it took a while but I soon realised I was on to a winner.
Jamie – Despite using all of my efforts to shock and appal with crude (and dad) jokes and bad smells, nothing was enough to put Emilie off, and that’s when I knew she was one for me.
Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
There was! It was 2nd January 2020, we were back in Australia visiting Emilie’s family and we’d just dropped one of Jamie’s best mates at Coffs Harbour airport. We decided to stop off at a beach on the way back. The beach was empty apart from one other couple so Emilie was very confused when Jamie made such a point of walking so far down to the other end of the it. As a result, Emilie took that as a great opportunity for some topless sunbaking…
As she opened her book to settle in, a letter with a tartan ribbon around it fell out. Confused she asked Jamie what it was, “it’s from Conor (his mate we’d just dropped off at the airport)” he responded. By the time Emilie had opened the letter and read it Jamie was down on one knee.
Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…
When it came to style Masseria Moroseta speaks for itself! We fell in love with its chic, rustic, simplicity. We loved it in its truly natural state, not adding any flowers or other styling pieces, that plus it’s home to one of the most incredible chefs, Giorgia Eugenia Goggi. We did have a couple of Scottish traditions throughout the day including a drink of the quaich during the ceremony and a ceilidh to get the dance floor going!
