Emily + Ryan by Muse Photography

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

Emily – I’m a graphic designer and Ryan is an electrician. We have a beautiful, but very mischievous one year old dog, Kaia who keeps us on our toes!

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

Emily –  Ryan was very reserved and shy at first, and I actually thought my personality would overwhelm him because I’m more outgoing but luckily we hit it off right away.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

Emily – We had been together for seven years before our wedding, so we’ve had an amazing friendship for a long time. In the beginning I was instantly attracted to him and had a feeling deep down he might be sticking around for a while.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

Emily  – The proposal story is so special to me, as we had just spent the whole day skiing in Lake Tahoe, California and little did I know Ryan had been carrying the engagement ring with him in his pocket the entire day, waiting for the perfect moment! We got into the gondola to head back down the mountain, and while I was already standing (taking pictures of the beautiful surroundings) he got down on one knee, held my hand and asked me to marry him.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

Emily  – The venue was so beautiful on its own, so we really didn’t want to add too many other elements to it as it already had so many features like an onsite marquee, indoor and outdoor fireplaces and a gorgeous pool area that we could incorporate into our day. We both knew we wanted our guests to have a wonderful time enjoying great food, hitting the dance floor and relaxing by the fire in the evening and that’s exactly how the day turned out.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

Emily – I’ve always loved Marquise Bridal as her gowns are simply gorgeous, and I was fortunate enough to find one I instantly knew would be perfect. I also had my grandmother’s heirloom tiara repurposed into a smaller piece for me to wear in my hair on the day. She passed away a few years ago, and so it was very special to have been able to incorporate a piece of her wedding day into mine.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

Emily – The venue. We had been to a wedding there previously and just fell in love with it. It was a such a dream for us to have our special day there.

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

My sister still has anxiety over this story, but she graciously MC’ed our wedding day and was letting our guests know we would be arriving shortly into the reception marquee for dinner. However, we messed up the timing of our entry alongside the song that was playing, despite rehearsing it many times earlier that day. With all of the jitters and excitement we couldn’t quite hear the song and therefore we missed the cue to walk in at the right moment, which we laughed about and my poor sister did not.
