A visual storyteller drawn to presence, light, and the poetry of in-between moments.
Alessandra Ryan from Events with Luz captures weddings with a quiet, intuitive presence — focusing not only on how the day looks, but how it feels. With a deep sensitivity to emotion, light, and atmosphere, she approaches each celebration as a living, breathing story waiting to unfold. From the subtle exchange of glances to the gentle shift of light across a room, Alessandra is attuned to the nuances that give a wedding its soul.
Blending thoughtful preparation with an instinct for the in-between moments, her imagery and films move seamlessly between the grand and the intimate. There is a softness to her lens, a reverence for connection, and an understanding that the most meaningful memories often live in the pauses. The result is work that feels immersive and honest — layered with depth, presence, and a quiet kind of beauty that is entirely personal to every couple she captures.

When you arrive at a wedding, what’s the first detail that catches your eye and sets the tone for the day’s story?
When I arrive at a wedding, the first thing I notice is the bride’s presence. Before I ever begin capturing content, I take a moment to check in, where she’s at emotionally, how the day is unfolding for her. It’s often the first or second time we meet in person, and understanding her energy matters more than any detail.Every good story begins with its characters, and the bride is the heart of this one. Once I understand her, the venue naturally follows. The setting, light, and atmosphere shape the visual language of the day, and together they set the tone for how the story will be told.
How do you approach designing a cohesive aesthetic for the whole wedding so that photos, reels, and clips feel like one seamless narrative?
A cohesive aesthetic begins well before the wedding day. I collaborate closely with the bride in advance to understand her vision, personal style, and the feeling she wants her day to hold. Through moodboards, saved references, and thoughtful content planning, we create a shared visual language ahead of time. That preparation allows me to move intuitively on the wedding day, capturing photos, reels, and clips that feel connected, like different chapters of the same story, rather than separate moments.

Which unexpected influence—a song, a city, a piece of art—has recently inspired your work on a wedding day?
A recent and unexpected influence has been the city of Paris. I traveled there less than a year ago and was deeply drawn to its sense of light, detail, and quiet elegance, from the architecture and artwork to the cobblestone streets and layered cultures. What stayed with me most was the art of savoring. Paris taught me to linger, to notice, to be present. That philosophy now shapes how I approach a wedding day, encouraging couples to fully inhabit the moment, and later, to revisit their memories in a way that feels just as rich and intentional.
Which moments or spaces at a wedding do most people overlook, but you see as full of storytelling potential?
The couple’s closest family and friends are often overlooked, yet they hold immense storytelling potential. These are the people who know the couple beyond the wedding day, and sometimes across a lifetime. By observing and engaging with them, I gain a deeper understanding of the couple’s story from multiple perspectives. Their reactions, quiet gestures, and shared history add depth and context, allowing the narrative to feel fuller, more layered, and deeply personal.

How do your personal experiences or perspective shape the way you capture each couple’s story?
I have always been drawn to people and their stories, both within and beyond weddings. My background in social media management and nonprofit storytelling has taught me how powerful it is to preserve moments with intention, especially stories rooted in culture, faith, and community. I approach weddings with that same reverence. I see them as sacred spaces where emotion, heritage, and connection intersect. Traveling and experiencing different cultures has further shaped my perspective, allowing me to capture each couple with sensitivity, curiosity, and respect for what makes their story uniquely theirs.
What’s an idea or creative experiment you’re excited to explore next, even if it’s a little unconventional?
I’m currently exploring wedding vlogumentaries which are longer-form films that blend home-style vlogging with documentary storytelling. Many couples want to capture their day in a raw, unfiltered way, and this format allows for a more immersive, emotional experience beyond short-form content. These films preserve the in-between moments and natural rhythm of the day, offering couples a deeply personal way to relive their wedding as it truly felt.

If your camera could have a personality, what kind of “partner” would it be while you work, and why?
My camera would be a quiet, intuitive partner, one that moves with intention and heart, with a deep attention to detail. It knows when to linger and when to step back, honoring the weight of each moment while capturing the story as it naturally unfolds.
How do you make sure each couple’s content feels completely unique to them, instead of following a formula or trend?
I begin by truly getting to know each couple, their personalities, values, and the way they move through the world together. From there, I build a creative vision rooted in their aesthetic and story, rather than trends. My love for film and narrative storytelling influences how I capture each wedding, encouraging me to explore new angles, pacing, and perspectives. No two love stories unfold the same way, and the content should reflect that individuality with intention and artistry.
