I wish I could say it was mutual love at first sight!
Roni —— We’ve been together nearly eight years, four in Hong Kong. We moved back to London last year. Henry —— I remember the first time I laid eyes on Roni. It was on Facebook. A friend who was living with Roni thought we could be a good match so we orchestrated a dinner party.
I wish I could say it was mutual love at first sight! I donned my favourite multi-coloured pastel shirt, which Roni later told me she hated (and swiftly replaced with a wardrobe full of white t-shirts). I won her over with what has now become my signature cheesy artichoke. I wanted to propose before we left Hong Kong so we could celebrate with friends and family.
With the ring burning a hole in my golf bag, one Friday after work, I suggested we head down to Chung Hom Kok beach. We found a spot which was private, apart from an older man filming the sunset. It was almost dark by the time he left, so I fumbled for the ring, said a lot of things neither of us can remember, and asked her to marry me.
Roni —— We decided to marry in London in December. Our brief was simple: city chic. We fell in love with 100 Barrington, a hidden oasis behind an unassuming iron gate in Brixton.
I’d never envisaged myself in a wedding dress. Anything too bridal or with too many layers was ruled out. Temperley was the third shop we visited and when I tried the Evie dress, I knew it was what I was looking for. A lot of couples try to save money on photography, and we nearly fell down that trap ourselves. But a friend gave us some good advice and an intro to Emma. We never looked back and will treasure the photos forever.
