We live a fairly relaxed life in Fitzroy with our 3-year-old son Monty. I work in UX Design at MECCA, and Jack in advisory at Deloitte.
How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
Jack and I met in 2015. He tells people we met “just the normal way”, which at the time was Tinder! For our first date, we went for ramen at a little place in the city, and from there we never looked back! The Tinder profiles were deleted soon after.
When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?
For me, I think it was probably one night when I went around to Jack’s place for dinner a couple of months in. He had gone to so much effort – all the special glassware was out and he’d made little baby tomato hors d’oeuvres even though he hates tomato. It really showed me this guy wasn’t playing games, he was (and still is) a genuinely fantastic man.
Jack – my friends and I mostly lived around the south side of Melbourne when Ruthie and I met, rarely venturing across the Yarra. Ruthie invited all my mates around to her place in Fitzroy one night and it probably sealed the deal – she went to so much effort and they all loved her, and I think that’s probably when I realised I loved her too! And we’re still living in that same house in Fitzroy now!
Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
Jack proposed on a wet and windy day in Aireys Inlet. My parents have a house there and we had gone down for the weekend. Jack really wanted to go for a walk and I was not keen! Finally he managed to persuade me to get out of the car and walk to a nearby lookout. It was definitely worth it!
Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…
The idea of a huge wedding where we bust through the reception double doors dancing really made me nervous, so when we started thinking about what our wedding would look like it was always going to be small and relaxed. In saying that, it had to be really special. I’m a bit of a control freak when it comes to arranging anything – holidays, activities etc, I’ll spend days on end researching to ensure I’ve seen all the options and chosen the “best”. When deciding on a venue, there was nowhere that was really getting us excited until we saw Tedesca. They had just recently opened when I stumbled across their instagram and fell in love. Jack and I went for lunch there and knew there was nowhere else that would feel quite as right as Tedesca. It is the most amazing restaurant and accommodation, with every little detail just so thought out and refined, while still being incredibly warm and inviting.
Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?
The whole day was thankfully fairly relaxed! Our son yelling out “MUMMY!” and attempting to bolt towards me while I was walking down the aisle wasn’t part of the plan but made for some very sweet photos. I also forgot a couple of personalised napkins for guests and only realised the night before so had a mini freak out – lesson learnt, triple check everything!!
