Jamie + Cam by Renee Green Creative

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

I am a disability support worker, coordinator and advocate. Cameron is a tech developer and creative spirit, who makes incredible art and music. We share an interest in real estate, design and landscapes, and have renovated and built homes together.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

Cam and I met in Brisbane in 2014 through mutual friends and had an immediate connection.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

Cam and I went travelling together, very early into our relationship. We share a passion for new cultures and experiences. This was such a special time for us, as you learn a lot about someone when travelling, and I believe that often it can make or break a new relationship. It certainly made us, and we knew that we wanted to spend our lives together, exploring and having fun.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

Cam grew up in Cairns, so this was a place we travelled to often. We were there in October 2020 to visit Cam’s parents and have a holiday. Cam is always planning fun adventures so I wasn’t too surprised when he arranged a helicopter to fly us out to an island in the Great Barrier Reef. I was terrified but wow, it was the most beautiful experience, we saw all kinds of sea life and landed on a secluded beach where Cam had organised a breakfast picnic with champagne. Now it was feeling special. Shortly after we arrived Cam asked me if I wanted to spend the rest of our lives together, of course I said YES. We spent the remainder of our holiday celebrating. Cam and I never wanted a big wedding, we didn’t even know if we cared for a legal marriage – hence why he didn’t ask me the traditional, will you marry me?

For us, commitment and unity is more important.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

Due to all of the excitement from our friends and family, we decided early that we would have a party to celebrate. I invited everyone to our Celebration of Love, as it was not an engagement party nor a wedding. We didn’t want multiple events spanning over years, engagements, and hens, and bucks parties etc. We thought if we’re doing this, let’s just do it! So I quickly planned a beautiful intimate wedding ceremony for the night before the party. It was Cam and I, our immediate family and four of our best friends. We were married at the Green House, in a cottage garden setting, it was so relaxed and simple and beautiful. I loved every moment. The following day we held a long table family brunch, before the big Celebration that evening.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

Photography! It was so important to us to capture our ceremony and celebration in a beautiful, timeless style.

Instead of traditional vows, we were united during our ceremony with a hand-fasting ritual. The tying of the ribbon symbolises our bond and being connected together forever. In this life and all others. Renee, our photographer, captured the detail in this moment so beautifully and I will cherish it forever.
