Jessica + Andreas by Calika

The vision for our wedding day was moody, romantic, ethereal and classic.

Jess: Back in 2013 I was working at an Italian restaurant and a mutual friend, who was picking me up from work, brought Andreas along. When I got in the car, I asked Andreas if he could go past McDonald’s to get me something to eat since I was starving after my shift. Andreas, being the sweet people pleaser that he is, didn’t hesitate and got me my food.

As I was eating the apple pie, Andreas asked if he could have some.I refused since I don’t believe in sharing my food! But I thought he was attractive and the only way I know how to flirt is to be cheeky and playful so once I had finished I asked if he still wanted some apple pie and emptied the crumbs into his hand. For our first Christmas as a joke gift I gave Andreas an empty apple pie box.

But after our initial meeting, we didn’t really talk until a couple years later when we bumped into each other in Europe. We haven’t stopped talking since. Andreas proposed while on a picnic in the Blue Mountains when he gave me a photo album of us and the last page had the words ‘Will you marry me?’ He then told me we were going canoeing but mistakenly booked a canyoning trip.

That meant we had two hours of jumping into freezing water and abseiling down a waterfall! It was the most horrific day I’ve probably ever experienced but if we can make it through that, then marriage should be fine! The vision for our wedding day was moody, romantic, ethereal and classic. I wanted the room to be as dark as possible so the main attraction was the candles and the romantic vibe was able to shine through.

I wanted a simple, flowery elegant dress. For my second dress I surprised Mum by wearing her wedding dress which I had cut short so it was more of a party dress. Andreas’ grandfather, who he was named after, passed away prior to the wedding and on the morning of our wedding his grandmother gave Andreas his grandfather’s cross to wear. One thing that went wrong was after I changed into my second dress for the night, my maid of honour stepped on the train and ripped it off! I was more annoyed that I had to take more time away from the dance floor. My grandmother luckily was able to sew the train back on

And just before the bridal party was about to enter the reception, one of my bridesmaid’s dresses ripped from top to bottom! Everyone was panicking and I had to ask the coordinator for a stapler to get the show on the road. The bridesmaid ended up finding a bunch of sewing needles that she temporarily pinned onto the dress and put on the groomsman’s jacket. Fortunately, my grandmother was able to sew her dress back together later on in the evening.
