JOE + JACQUI by Elk Avenue

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship:

Jacquelyn: I am a registered Nurse, musician, animal enthusiast and enjoy cooking delicious healthy meals. Joe is an electrician, sport and fitness lover and all over good guy.

Our strong traits are exactly what the other lacks, we make a solid team, have similar wants for the future and make each other happy.

We live in Wagga Wagga, sometimes our days off don’t match up due to my nursing job but when we have days off together we love spending quality time with family and friends and being outdoors. We have a kelpie dog named Jed, who comes most places with us.

We have recently built a home which makes us so happy to come home to. We both enjoy being active, doing activities that challenge us and learning new skills.

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details:

Joe and I are both very easy going people. We knew we wanted an intimate wedding with just our closest family and friends, which ended up being 46 people. We live streamed our wedding for our family and friends that couldn’t make it due to covid.

Jacquelyn: I’m a farm girl at heart and always dreamed of getting married down by the Murrumbidgee river under an old gum tree. My parents own a farm in Wagga on the Murrumbidgee river and my dad built a shed made out of old materials with a big veranda. Since it was built I dreamed of having our wedding reception in it, whilst looking out over the river.

We had to move the whole wedding last minute to The Wild Vine Winery across the road due to the rain. Thank God they still had that date available!
The Wild Vine Winery was absolutely beautiful.

Our wedding was very personal. I had a table set up of our loved ones photos that had passed away, a table of our grandparents and parent’s wedding photos, and a table of photos of Joe and I as babies. I wore my dad’s wedding ring on my right hand, had my husband’s old (but clean) hanky in my pocket, and wore a pair of cowboy boots a dear friend bought me as a gift for taking care of him in the hospital.

The style of our wedding was simple with neutral, natural colours like beige, sage green, and white. My bouquet was made of sunflowers and wildflowers. I wanted our wedding to feel like you were in the country.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day:

The whole day was honestly magical. Joe and I woke up together and kissed each other good morning. We were so excited to marry each other that same day.
We both got ready at our parents houses with our immediate family.
The ceremony was so genuine and intimate as we wrote and said our own vows to each other in front of our loved ones.

Our dog Jed was right there with us in his little bow tie. Nothing was stressful on the wedding day, everything fell into place and all we felt was joy, even though I left my bouquet at my parent’s house before walking down the aisle and my brother had to race back to get it.

Jacquelyn: I wrote a song for Joe and played it for him in front of our guests at the reception, which was special to both of us because music is a big part of how I express myself and tell stories.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together:

Never take each other for granted and never give up on each other. Relationships are not easy but a great one has open communication, fun and love that goes beyond image.
