Instant tears for me and Ryler, he got the dad he always wanted, and I got the husband I never thought I’d have.
Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
KL: I grew up in Taupo and am an earthmover, I love family life with my children and having some beers with the boys after work.
JL: I grew up in Wellington, and I had my son Ryler at 17 and managed to get through my hairdressing apprenticeship during that time and have now been a hairdresser for over 10 years. I love my job, my clients and spending as much time with my family or at a beach as I can.
How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
JL: We first met in a club I was working in. Kameron came in wearing stolen bowling shoes that lit up under the UV lights, so for the first 6 months, I only knew him as “the bowling shoes guy”. I thought he was hilarious and very sweet.
KL: “Hola senorita” was my first impression of Juzz. I had no idea what that meant, haha, but I knew I liked what I saw and wanted to get to know her better.
When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?
JL: For the both of us, I think it resonated after two years of being friends one night while we were just hanging out together casually, it’s like we both just realised, wow, this is the person I can be completely myself, and there was just no awkwardness or hiding anything something just clicked for us both, and it all just fell into place effortlessly.
Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
JL: Yes, so we had our daughter and three weeks after, it was the night before Christmas I have a ritual of letting my son Ryler open one Christmas present the night before, and we decided to jump in and do it for ourselves too little when it came to my turn Kam said “yours is in Addisons blanket” she was tucked up in at the time I opened it up saw the ring and turned back around to him kneeling on one knee. Instant tears for me and Ryler, he got the dad he always wanted, and I got the husband I never thought I’d have.
Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…
JL: Modern, Elegant, Classy Boho. I wanted it to have a timeless element, but I still wanted it to be modern and with a boho feel. I wanted clean lines, clean, crisp pops of colour, but elevated and understated.
What was one element you were happy to splurge on?
Absolutely our Photography, we opted out for a videographer, so our photographer was our most important keepsake to cherish, and we could not have been happier with our decision Zanda was amazing, not only with the photos we received after that looked like something out of a magazine but throughout the whole day she was just a breath of fresh air and we had lots of people comment on her professionalism and how impressed they were.
Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?
JL: Kameron left his shoes back in Taupo, so he had to drive 35 minutes to Cambridge to buy shoes and didn’t tell me until he got back to the lodge.
